Hey, I was pretty much set on calling our baby Darcie if it’s a girl. And my mother in law suggested Delilah which now I also love. ???

Gently, I’d think again.

Gently, stop being patronising

Scottyme · 16/05/2025 07:07

why why why….. she’d probably be known as Del.

i personally find Darcie how ever it’s spelt as chavvy

how about Delyth?

Redflamingos · 16/05/2025 07:12

I’m not keen on either, but I prefer Darcie.

AliBaliBee1234 · 16/05/2025 07:17

Darcie !

Enko · 16/05/2025 07:27

I prefer Darcie - I will be controversial and also say I prefer the ie spelling. I'm not a fan of Delilah but nor do I dislike it. I've read the bible and I'm good both with Delilah and Pandora.

D'Arcy (or possibly Darcy), not Darcie. She'd be spelling it out forever with that weird spelling.

I have only ever seen D'Arcy as a surname. Please do not lumber your child with that as a first name. It just looks like a pretentious, try-hard way of trying to make a fairly common name different.

I'm not keen on either but prefer Delilah.

How about just Lilah?
Delna?

Ok. They’re both awful names?

WayneEyre · 16/05/2025 07:49

Neither Very nice.

Delilah, do you know the story? Plus, we all love the song but I have a singalong name and it's great fun as an adult but not as a shy child.

Darcy, D'Arcy, whatever is quite low rent. If you must then Darcy. Probably don't add a one syllable nickname.

give her both names darcie, delilah of delilah darcie and this will make your mother in law very happy and you like it as well and her nickname can be DD

GoodVibesOnly21 · 17/08/2025 14:26

I like Delilah. The bible thing doesn’t bother me at all.

Darcy sounds like arsey to me. So don’t like it all!

MellowPinkDeer · 17/08/2025 14:27

i like but I dislike ie spellings so I’d use the proper girl spelling which is Darcey.

Agree on the spelling of it being Darcy not Darcie. I think I prefer Delilah though.

HopscotchBanana · 19/08/2025 11:28

Delilah is lovely.

Yes you'll get the song on occasion. Very few will make the Sampson association.

I considered it for DD. I think it sounds like a strong willed determined little girl. Also Tallulah, Valentina and Gabriella.

RuthW · 19/08/2025 12:20

Darcie isn’t anywhere as nice as Delilah.

SpikeGilesSandwich · 19/08/2025 12:45

Delilah is a much nicer name than Darcie in my opinion but each to their own.

BeyonceTheGreat · 19/08/2025 12:57

Darcy

RaraRachael · 19/08/2025 13:26

Not keen on either.
Delilah just reminds me of the song and Darcie because it has the arse sound in it.
