Please pick the best name from each list and/or give me your opinion on these names. Suggestions are also welcome. Gender is unknown. I have placed relevant information regarding each name in parentheses. Thank you!

Girl:
Andrea (I only like the ann-dree-ah pronunciation.)
Damaris (pronounced dah-mair-is)
Emilia (I'm concerned that this name would be misheard and/or misspelled as Amelia.)
Emmeline (I only like the em-eh-line pronunciation.)
Ivory
Kalliope (pronounced kah-lie-ah-pee)
Karla
Karlene
Kiara (pronounced kee-are-ah)
Mary-Kate
Ursa

Boy:
Charles
Kane
Kieran
Lewis
Malachi
Moses
Nico
Saul

Honestly I dislike most of the girls names...sorry! Emilia is nice enough though. I like Karla but would spell it Carla.

Your boy names are better....Nico and Lewis are the nicest imo.

penelopemoneypenny · 02/05/2025 19:18

For me out of your list I like
Emmaline
kalliope (I do prefer calliope)

and for boys
Nico

GoldenRosebee · 02/05/2025 19:19

My choice would be Mary-Kate and Charles.
I do like Emmeline the best but only like Emme-lynn pronunciation. I also (somewhat) like Karla and Lewis
How about Moss instead of Moses - it was nickname for Moses.

SnowFrogJelly · 02/05/2025 19:21

Emmeline
Kieran

Needmorelego · 02/05/2025 19:25

Andrea or Carla (with a C not K).
Charles if he's going to be a Charlie.
I like Nick or Nicky - but no so much Nico.
Would it be "Neee-co" or "Nick-o"?

Justgoingforaweeliedown · 02/05/2025 19:28

I feel like Karla, Kalliope, Karlene and Kiara should all start with a "C", like other PPs have said so you'd possibly be setting them up for a lot of correcting throughout their lives. Currently pregnant and my husband suggested Emilia but I agree it'll be confused with Amelia (which has been very popular recently), not to mention the local accent where I am means it wouldn't be pronounced correctly either.

I like Emmeline and Lewis from your list.

Thank you for answering! I love Charlie as a nickname for Charles! :)

It would be pronounced nee-co.

Charles

Rockmehardplace · 02/05/2025 20:08

I like:
Carla (spelled this way)
Mary-Kate
Emilia

Love Saul and Malachi

stample · 02/05/2025 20:11

kiara without a doubt!
quite like Saul too

LilDeVille · 02/05/2025 20:13

Discount any that have pronunciation concerns IMO.

I choose Kiara, but prefer Chiara spelling, and don’t like any of your boy names, would probably pick Malachi although would it be mala-key or mala-kai?

Also, choose which you like best out of Kiara & Kieran and use that/save for future child of that sex, because you wouldn’t want to use both for siblings. Someone had both Martha and Arthur on their list once and I gave the same advice.

Gundogday · 02/05/2025 20:17

Andrea on, dated,

Damaris - presume it was a male name, , not heard if it before
Emilia - ok, line
Emmeline - quite like
Ivory - no
Kalliope (pronounced kah-lie-ah-pee) - no
Karla - prefer Carla
Karlene - no
Kiara (pronounced kee-are-ah) - no
Mary-Kate - not bad
Ursa - no , arse -as
Boy:
Charles - classic name,
Kane - ok
Kieran - ok
Lewis - ok
Malachi - ok
Moses - no

Hell I'm all for unusual names but give the kid and others chance to use the proper pronunciation!!
Use a name that's obviously said.
*Unless a name that reflects your family.

weareallalittlebitthesame · 02/05/2025 20:32

Emilia and Nico

Thank you for answering and congratulations!

I believe Karla and Kiara are more common/popular where I live. (I also like the K spellings because I really like the idea of using the nickname "Kay".)

To make things even more confusing, Kiara and Ciara are also pronounced differently here. Kiara is key-are-ah or key-air-ah, and Ciara is keer-ah (like Kiera/Kira), see-air-ah (like Sierra), or see-are-ah.

It's definitely something to consider! I want to avoid any name that is going to be a "hassle".

I like Damaris, Mary-Kate, Charles and possibly Saul.

I first came across Damaris in a fiction book. It's a Biblical name that isn't very common (along with others like Beulah). Damaris was a woman who was converted to Christianity by St. Paul.

Edited

Thank you for the advice! I agree that they're too similar for siblings.

It would be pronounced mal-ah-kai.

Andrea and Lewis.

Most of the girls' names where you specify the pronunciation, you're not saying it the way I would. If you need to explain how you're pronouncing a name, I wouldn't use it.

Andrea is a lovely name, and quite unusual these days.

BaldMouse · 02/05/2025 21:36

Is it for a human baby?

WetBandits · 02/05/2025 21:38

Anything but Kane. Never met a nice Kane.

Mumofgirls2017 · 02/05/2025 21:49

Emmeline and kalliope

lewis and nico

BaldMouse · 02/05/2025 21:51

Girl:
Andrea - some say it as An-dray-a
Damaris - I've only heard Dah -mar-is
Emilia - will get Amelia
Emmeline - I've only heard Emmeh-leen
Ivory - no
Kalliope - only seen Calliope
Karla - Carla
Karlene - no
Kiara (pronounced kee-are-ah) - Chiara
Mary-Kate - and Ashley
Ursa - Bear. Awful
Boy:
Charles
Kane - no
Kieran - 1970s name. No
Lewis
Malachi - don't like it
Moses
Nico - Velvet Underground singer
Saul

WhimsyWhim · 02/05/2025 22:01

I should add that the surname is Shapiro.

Like Ursa and Emmeline. What about Ursie or Ylva?

Malachi is cool. What about Solomon?

DramaAlpaca · 02/05/2025 22:35

I like Emilia, much prefer it to Amelia.

I like Emmeline too, but only with the 'leen' pronunciation.

Of the boys' names I like Lewis a lot, but not the rest.
