Margot Alysia Y_ as a full name.

Alysia is a modern take on my mother’s name, and Margaret is DH late GMs names - hence, Margot.

Love it!

HeddaGarbled · 23/04/2025 20:17

Yes, nice

Arlanymor · 23/04/2025 20:18

Beautiful and classic.

Norastroud · 23/04/2025 20:27

Gorgeous name & lovely sentiment behind it 🩷

SkaneTos · 23/04/2025 20:38

It's a lovely name!

Lascivious · 23/04/2025 20:40

That chavvy TOWIE woman named her daughter Margot. I can’t think of her name. That would put me off.

Moreteaandchocolate · 23/04/2025 20:42

Love it!

WtafIsThat · 23/04/2025 20:43

I don’t like it at all, it’s also massively popular recently and I think will date. It’s a faddy name.

Emanwenym · 23/04/2025 20:57

I prefer Margaret to Margot. The other forms like Rita, Greta, Maggie, Daisy are also nicer.

How do you say Alysia? Alison or Alice are prettier.

Margot is OK but it's a bit trendy.

Darkclothes · 23/04/2025 20:59

I always think of Maggot! 😬

I realise its similar to a family name, but personally, I don't like it. What was DH's GM's middle name?

peanutbuttertoasty · 23/04/2025 21:03

Escargot

That chavvy TOWIE woman named her daughter Margot. I can’t think of her name. That would put me off.

It also reminds of this story - According to a Hollywood legend there was a pointed verbal encounter between the movie siren Jean Harlow and the sharp-tongued English aristocrat Margot Asquith. When Harlow attended a party given by Asquith, the movie star presumptuously referred to the hostess by her first name, and she repeatedly mispronounced it as “Margott”, i.e., she pronounced a “t” at the end of the name. Eventually, Asquith responded with a squelcher:
No, no, Jean. The ‘t’ is silent, as in Harlow.

And then there's - Margot Robbie reveals the surprising reason her school friends call her 'Maggot': 'That has been my nickname since I was six years old!'

RichPetuniaAgain · 23/04/2025 21:50

Lovely name

Pollyanna87 · 23/04/2025 22:11

Lovely name, but too popular at the moment.

Jennifershuffles · 23/04/2025 22:13

Both names are lovely and flow together well. Makes me think of flowers.

ra89 · 23/04/2025 22:15

It’s really popular right now, but I named one of my children a name that became really popular very quickly after they were born without realising that would happen! There are many of them a little younger than him. It doesn’t seem to bother him.

I like the spelling Margo better because my brain sees “maggot” when I see it written with a “t”.

I really love the name though.

Middleagedstriker · 23/04/2025 22:20

I always think of the annoying neighbour in the good life. I find it quite ugly.

welcometonewyorkitsbeenwaitingforyou · 23/04/2025 22:27

I can’t understand why it’s suddenly so popular. If you’d said that 20 years ago people wouldn’t have believed you. I also think of the Good Life when I hear it. I don’t like it.

Emanwenym · 23/04/2025 22:28

@welcometonewyorkitsbeenwaitingforyou , Margot Robbie.

Firsttimebabymummy · 23/04/2025 22:29

Lovely name.

Happyinarcon · 23/04/2025 22:39

I would also suggest Margaret over Margot simply due to the current popularity.

marshmallowfinder · 23/04/2025 22:41

Margot is truly frumpy to me and looks like Maggot I'm afraid. Alyssia is beautiful.

I love the name and was on my list - called DD Etta in the end.

WildCherryBlossom · 23/04/2025 23:00

Margot is lovely. I know a 56 year old, an 18 year old and an 11 year old. That’s a pretty good age spread. I don’t think it’s ‘of the moment’ at all. Rather timeless.
