Margot Alysia Y_ as a full name.

Alysia is a modern take on my mother’s name, and Margaret is DH late GMs names - hence, Margot.

There are a LOT of Margot - or more commonly Margaux’s - around at the moment

Emanwenym · 25/04/2025 20:43

@Cheepcheepcheep , Babies called Margot in England & Wales since 1996
and that doesn't include 2024 and 2025.

I must live in a bubble! I know one Margot age 10 and another age 11. That said there were 24 of my DD’s name in the year she was born and I’ve already met one from the year before which had 36 of that name…

@Cheepcheepcheep , name popularity tends to be regional. You only need to look at the 'stole my name' threads to see that if you mention your future baby's name, someone will suddenly feel the need to use it for their child.

A friend gave her baby the same name as one of her friends' baby, but the name was only used for about 240 babies that year.

Looks too much like Maggot for me. Sorry no.

Prefer Margaux 👍

LangoLanguage · 26/04/2025 11:48

Very trendy and wi date. Why don’t you go for Margaret and NN Margot?

Emanwenym · 26/04/2025 11:48

Margaux is awful. Shades of Chardonnay, and potential for misspelling.

irts · 26/04/2025 13:20

Margaux?

irts · 26/04/2025 13:21

... didn't finish!
Margaux as a different spelling?
Margot/Margaux = lovely name indeed

LivingLaVidaBabyShower · 26/04/2025 13:26

Margot is quite trendy or becoming trendy

Go for it...

Baital · 26/04/2025 13:29

I like it, but would probably go for Margaret on the birth cert and then Margot as the family nickname. That gives her lots of options in future for other nicknames if she doesn't like Margot, without having to change anything officially.

Travelodge · 26/04/2025 13:35

Margot is lovely.
I don’t like Alysia at all. I like Alice or Alicia (or even Alyssa, which is what my spell-check suggested instead of your spelling) but if you call the poor child Alysia no-one will know how to spell it or, if they read it, how to pronounce it. Aleesha? Aleezier?

I know a little Margot. Lovely name.

Me too. A tiny Margot. So cute I think.

Enigma53 · 26/04/2025 13:49

I like it. I had no idea it was a popular name though.

JaninaDuszejko · 26/04/2025 14:28

I would much prefer a more traditional spelling of Alicia. I have a slight preference for Margaret over Margot, as Baital says there are more options, but both are lovely.

stanzatwo · 08/05/2025 18:54

Lovely name but would never use it now as it's in the top 50 names - Margaret is a nice name and Maggie is cute
