We have finally narrowed it down with a week to go until we meet DD!
We have found this so hard this time around. DD1 is Orla. Please can you tell me what you think of the following 3 names…

  1. Lana
  2. Heidi
  3. Olivia
middle name will be Elizabeth. We are after something beautiful, not too fussy and something that will stand her well when she’s an adult and in a great career! I know many can judge a book by its cover so I’d love to know what comes to mind. please be kind - I’m very aware of the Lana issue however, one can do this with so many names it’s not a deal breaker for us. Thanks all!

If you don’t want it pronounced ‘Al-AY-na, I’d go with the double n — Alanna or Alannah.

All the Alana’s I’ve ever met or heard of (on TV etc) - have been pronounced as “Ah-lar-nah” (basically Lana with an A at the start). This is in England, the USA and Aus. Where are you from that it’s pronounced “Al- ay- nah”?

I’ve never heard it said with the ay sound either @LilyJosephine. I don’t say the name with the sound represented by ar (in England) either though. The second vowel sound is a bit different for me I think.

More like the second pronunciation in this link

‘A leanbh’ means ‘child’ when you’re addressing a child in Irish. It’s a term of endearment really. It’s the origin of the name, or one of the origins anyway.
