What's your immediate thoughts of the name Dacre? ( Pronounced Day-ker) Think it's lovely for a little boy but partner not convinced.

I don't understand how cre could be pronounced as ker?

As in acre. Ay-kuh.

BumbleBeegu · 19/04/2025 17:36

FFS 😩

No, OP, just no!

I like it! I like the pronunciation of it but not the spelling of it. Could you spell it the way you pronounce ie Dayker?

It's already an unusual spelling and it limits the issue with questionable pronunciation.

Edited

The OP does NOT need encouraging! 🤦‍♀️

It’s like acre isn’t it?

Hercisback1 · 19/04/2025 18:14

I thought you'd mis spelled a unique Darcey.

It's non conventional so might get annoying to explain.

Absolutely not, it's terrible!

Snowfairyxx · 19/04/2025 22:26

I also love near an estate agent with that Dacre in the name, so I would say no.

I just know it as a village in North Yorkshire, but I suppose some people names are place names too!

As long as your surname is into 'Banks' or 'Braithwaite'

JuneySunshine · 22/04/2025 13:43

Tbf I find the pronunciation intuitive- like acre.
But I don't like it- makes me think of a car brand maybe Dacia.

Exactly my first thought.

I'd think you were a Daily Mail nutjob.

pinkdelight · 22/04/2025 13:45

Your DP is right to not be convinced. Dunno where you got the idea from but forget it and come up with a nice name for your child.

BarnacleBeasley · 22/04/2025 13:47

To be fair, by the time he grows up it might not have such strong Daily Mail connotations.

OhWhistle · 22/04/2025 16:41

Certainly if it's a family name. Tudor and Talbot also good. I'm not joking.

thinkfast · 22/04/2025 16:52

Like the Daily Mail editor?

OhWhistle · 22/04/2025 16:55

What is this maily dail of which you speak

Sounds modern

EcruCardigan · 22/04/2025 17:24

It's a tabloid newspaper, where the stories articles may or may not have an element of truth .
It tends to appeal to those who like clutching their pearls.

Avoid it unless you take delight in Schadenfreude.
