So husband and I have only one name between us that we agree on: Darcy. I love it but recently the thought of arsey popped into my head. We live in Scotland if that has any bearing. I am English but husband is Scottish. Am I overthinking it and it’s still a nice name or is it definitely going to haunt us? If you say it’s a bad idea please suggest an alternative as we are really back to the drawing board after discussing names for months! 😭

I don’t think arsey is used that much in Scotland tbh, I rarely hear it here. Perhaps that’s why I don’t really connect the name with it.

Darcy is the boys spelling, Darcey is the correct girl spelling ( though so many people use the wrong one now )

I like it, but prefer Darcie. There used to be a girl in my school with this name, and she was lovely

The only real life girl I know with the name is D'Arcy - so that brings to mind arsy. I know of Darcey Bussell and she is amazing and could tolerate any nick name.

Use the name; silly nick names only last a week or two and if she has a nice arse she might like it.

Darcy is a handsome boys name.

I prefer Darcie or Darcey for a girl.

@BabyRuthless the 's' sound is slightly different, but I hear arse

I have a Darcie. She's 3, so we have never experienced anyone calling her arsey..hopefully we don't once she starts school! We are also in scotland.

My daughter's friend is called Darcy. No problems at all with the name.

RaraRachael · 16/04/2025 13:47

I don't think "Arsey Darcey" as arsey isn't a word used around here but to me I just hear the word arse

Moreteaandchocolate · 16/04/2025 16:13

I love Darcey, but other ideas in case you change your mind: Maisie, Marnie, Hallie, Seren

I like it. You can think of an unfortunate rhyming or phrase for any name.
