Rose as a first name

The only girl's name me and DH both seem to like - but I can't think of a middle name which works with it. Eg Catherine Rose (my first choice, but DH doesn't like Catherine) works well, but Rose Catherine just doesn't really roll off the tongue. Any suggestions?

Whatever you do, don't choose Marie

belgo · 16/05/2008 11:35

I think Rose Catherine sounds fine. Very pretty.

MargaretMountford · 16/05/2008 11:35

Rose doesn't seem to work with a middle name..but Rosie would

I really like it . Shame it's relegated to a middle name most of the time - I think Rose Catherine sounds very classy

belgo · 16/05/2008 11:36

Rosa is also very pretty.

Anna8888 · 16/05/2008 11:38

Rose is very pretty (and much better than Rosa, which reminds me of cleaning ladies ).

Rose Catherine is all right... Catharine is my middle name and I don't think it's very exciting.

Rose Hermione? Rose Georgina?

nailpolish · 16/05/2008 11:40

but you never say the full name anyway. how many times will you say Rose Catherine? hardly ever. go for it.

belgo · 16/05/2008 11:43

I like Rosemary as well.

Tortington · 16/05/2008 11:43

RC? lets hope your not catholic

EffiePerine · 16/05/2008 11:44

Rose Catherine Anne

Anna8888 · 16/05/2008 11:46

Rose Livia?

Rose Jemima?

lilibet · 16/05/2008 11:48

Rose Gabrielle

I think you need a hard vowel sound after the soft 's' and soemthing long as contrast.

Trying hard to thik of others.

Actually, ignore the hard vowel sound as Rose Elizabeth sounds lovely as well.

Tommy · 16/05/2008 11:49

Rose Catherine is beautiful and classy and agree that you never really say the whole name after the first few weeks when you're telling people their name anyway.

My DS2's names are lovely but sound a but silly when you use the diminutive of both (like Tommy Johnny ) but we didn't realise that at the time and obviously don't call him that anyway!

castille · 16/05/2008 11:51

Rose is lovely. After a single syllable first name, I think four syllables sound good for a middle name. How about Elizabeth, Olivia, Amelia or Isabella?

dizzydixies · 16/05/2008 11:52

kitty rose?

rose is dd1's mn and she is Ella Rose

lovely name for either first name or mn

Niecie · 16/05/2008 11:53

My middle name is Rose but I was named after my father's mother whose real name was Rosina. My DF forgot to tell my mother this though which is why I have the shortened version.

Anyway, Rosina Catherine is very pretty imo and you can still call your DD Rose for short.

shreddies · 16/05/2008 11:54

I LOVE Rose.

Madsometimes · 16/05/2008 11:54

Rosemary Catherine is what I like but then I would say that
Maybe known as Rose or Rosie.

dizzydixies · 16/05/2008 11:54

rosalyn or Rosalind are both nice too

shreddies · 16/05/2008 11:55

Rose Isabel/Isobel?
Rose Olivia?

lynn1 · 16/05/2008 12:00

Rose Amelia
Rose Eliza
Rose Augusta
Rose Anastasia

basically I think many names with 3 or more syllables might work, depending on your surname.

zazen · 16/05/2008 12:04

Rosario? Roisín?
We have an Elizabeth Rose in our family.
And my DD's second name is Rose - with a 3 syllable first name.
Catherine is lovely as Kitty, or Kit, or Catrióna.
So Rose Kitty / Catherine sounds lovely.
like your MN name! Kitty seems to be a theme?

Poledra · 16/05/2008 12:09

I love Rose, and I like some of these other cominations suggested here (Rose Elizabeth sounds lovely). However ,don't forget to look at her initials too, especially if you have a middle name starting with a vowel.

thirtysomething · 16/05/2008 12:19

Rose Sophia
Rose Francesca
Rose Ayesha
Rose Maya
Rose Ella
Rose Elena
Rose Clara
Rose Antonia
Rose Alexandra
Rose Alicia
Rose Beatrice
Rose Mae/Maeve
Rose Martha
Rose Florence
Rose Caterina for variation on Catherine?

Possibilities are endless; agree it sounds better with longer middle name
