Patrick or Elliot?

Just that really!

We’re slightly leaning towards Elliot but read in a few threads on here that it’s a bit of a ‘naughty’ name which I’d never thought of before. Are they potentially also both a bit outdated?! I can’t tell if I’m just getting in my head about this now!

We also already have a little girl called Nora

I think Patrick is more of a classic. If the choice was mine, that's the name I'd choose.

Patrick

Patrick

Wow patrick is getting really popular!
I know 4 little Patrick's!! It's a lovely classic name!!

Nosaucelikemintsauce · 01/04/2025 14:54

Ime the name Paddy is used as a term for a dc having a tantrum!!
Neither 'go' with Nora..
What about Miles?

wellingtonsandwaffles · 01/04/2025 14:55

Both nice names but be ready to never hear the T of Elliot.

having been a teacher I haven’t spotted Elliot as being naughty. Nicknames likely (even if you don’t choose them) El or Els.

Patrick is more common, Pat or Paddy likely - I like Patrick but don’t like Pat!

Same. Also have a lovely friend called Patrick (Paddy). It’s just got a nice feel as a name.

Yes I feel the same about Pat, but I like Paddy so I wonder if we could try to lead with that as his nickname. I don’t mind El or Els either

Patrick

Dustmylemonlies · 01/04/2025 15:11

These were both on my shortlist. Lovely names. How long is your surname? As Elliot has 3 syllables, it might be a bit of a mouthful with a longer surname...

Grungrot · 01/04/2025 15:11

I love Patrick, and Paddy as a nickname

NuitDeSable · 01/04/2025 15:12

Elliott.

OneWaryCat · 01/04/2025 15:13

Both are lovely names. Wait until you him and decide then, and also want goes best with your last name.

Congratulations x

Patrick

RuthW · 01/04/2025 15:24

Patrick is lovely. Elliot is dated.

KayEmAy · 01/04/2025 15:27

Team Elliot

Manchesterbythesea · 01/04/2025 15:30

I like both. I know an Elliott, in his 20’s. Has a girlfriend called Nora. I think the names go well together.
Plenty of Patricks here in Ireland. More often than not called Paddy or Pa.

Nevertrustacop · 01/04/2025 15:31

Eliott, but ideally I'd split the difference and go Eric

Chunkilumptious · 01/04/2025 15:33

Patrick. I prefer the spelling Eliot as in the poet. I find it a bit classier than Elliot. Maybe because of TS.

Throwitback · 01/04/2025 15:34

Absolutely love Patrick! I’m not as fond of Elliott but it’s not a ‘naughty’ name in my experience

shoopshoopdedoo · 01/04/2025 15:41

Patrick

ginasevern · 01/04/2025 15:56

Patrick is classy and won't date. Elliot will date and isn't particularly classy.

I know a couple of little boys called Patrick and think it's lovely

Tozzie · 01/04/2025 16:00

Thanks everyone! I thought that this would be more evenly split to be honest, but a clear majority for Patrick

Our surname is one syllable and ends in an S - a similar vibe to Mills if that makes a difference. We also have some (although not loads!) of Irish heritage from my husband’s side which it would be nice to nod to.
