Patrick or Elliot?

Just that really!

We’re slightly leaning towards Elliot but read in a few threads on here that it’s a bit of a ‘naughty’ name which I’d never thought of before. Are they potentially also both a bit outdated?! I can’t tell if I’m just getting in my head about this now!

We also already have a little girl called Nora

2 of my kids have names considered "naughty" or "common" by Mumsnet, but we liked the names and guess what, the kids are doing fine!

SwedishEdith · 01/04/2025 16:08

Patrick. I like Pat on an adult man as well. It definitely goes with Nora. Honora is/was pretty common for Irish women so they definitely go together.

HoldingTheDoor · 01/04/2025 16:09

Patrick is 100x nicer than Elliot.

Moreteaandchocolate · 01/04/2025 16:39

Definitely Elliot!

leli · 01/04/2025 16:39

Patrick!

Sassysoonwins · 01/04/2025 16:41

I much prefer Elliot to Patrick.

BootballJoy · 01/04/2025 16:46

Patrick

LadyQuackBeth · 01/04/2025 18:19

Patrick, but with the NN Patch rather than Paddy!
They are both lovely names though.

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 01/04/2025 18:21

Definitely Patrick.

hjokhjjjkkkd · 01/04/2025 18:25

Elliot is far nicer than Patrick, I’m surprised Patrick is so popular, I don’t think it sounds nice and it’s a bit middle aged. I know a range of ages for Elliot, I only know Patrick as an older man name.

Notdoingtoobadfor52 · 01/04/2025 18:26

Elliott. Patrick is awful.

Namechange032025 · 01/04/2025 18:28

I love Patrick and it works fine as a full name ie not Pat or Paddy

DisforDarkChocolate · 01/04/2025 18:32

Patrick. Such a lovely strong name, plus I know an adorable one.

Patch? That's a dog's name, or a rabbit.

Hohofortherobbers · 01/04/2025 18:37

Elliot

Ime the name Paddy is used as a term for a dc having a tantrum!!
Neither 'go' with Nora..
What about Miles?

The term 'having a paddy' is an offensive anti Irish slur.

Nora and Patrick go extremely well together imo. Both names are associated with Ireland.

mathanxiety · 01/04/2025 19:24

"Patch" is used as a nn for Patrick in Ireland.

mathanxiety · 01/04/2025 19:25

Tozzie · 01/04/2025 14:59

Yes I feel the same about Pat, but I like Paddy so I wonder if we could try to lead with that as his nickname. I don’t mind El or Els either

Paddy would be lovely as a nn.

maw1681 · 01/04/2025 19:30

I prefer Patrick, and I think it goes better with Nora too.
Elliot makes me think of ET 😂

AmusedLemur · 02/04/2025 00:40

Elliot - Patrick reminds me of sponge bob

BoleynMemories13 · 02/04/2025 06:51

I love Elliot and, as a teacher, it definitely doesn't strike me as a 'naughty' name.

Patrick isn't for me. I'm not keen on the sound of the full name or it's nickname options.

Emiliana52 · 02/04/2025 06:58

the Elliot’s I know are just the best behaved. I’m a teacher!

Bluelavenders · 02/04/2025 07:16

Both are ok, but I don’t like the inevitable nicknames Pat and El.

Bluelavenders · 02/04/2025 07:17

And Paddy is awful imo - throwing a paddy!

Sleepnplay · 02/04/2025 08:09

Elliot is lovely imo and I've not considered it as a 'naughty' name at all. I like Patrick too but really dislike Pat, so prob wouldn't go for that.
