Middle name for Gia?

YourAmberFawn · 16/03/2025 23:13

Hi!

Baby girl is due any day now and we have officially settled on Gia (Jee-a).

I am loving Gia Rosalie Yates but the husband is going with Gia Eliza Yates.

Help is appreciated!

TO BE CLEAR - I am not looking for any negative opinions on the name Gia. That’s her name and any advice on her name will just be unnecessary.

Thank you :)

I think you misunderstood that post. I took it that the poster was pointing out it that as there were two adjacent vowels between the two names, most people would subconsciously insert an 'r' to make it easier to say. Which ends up sounding like a rhotic 'Jeer'.

Oh really?I don’t think so because at the end she put “Jeer Yates” completely missing out the middle name all together??

I might have misunderstood but with that sentence alone it seemed like negativity on Gia rather than it being paired with Eliza.

Hormones are also crazy at this point and I’m very sensitive 🤣

Lovely name, and I think your suggestion is much nicer than your DH’s. A short first name ending in a vowel sounds much better with a longer middle name starting with a consonant as the vowels trip over into one another when saying the two names together so you have to take a conscious pause to say the two names properly.

Gia Rosalie forces people to say the two names separately, but Gia Eliza can turn into ‘Giareliza’ if you say them together too quickly .

Also think Gia Rebecca sounds nice!

Gia Rosalie, although I love pp's suggestion of Gia Elise.

Gia is a beautiful name.

TBH- I thought that exact same and didn't think @Emanwenym was giving unsolicited advice! Just pointing out, like many others, that 2 vowels together clash and don't sound right.

Gia Rosalie is lovely, as I already said in my earlier post.

Also just thought it was helpful advice and something clearly overlooked like the initials.

I think Gia is lovely but I’d try to find something without an ‘ee’ or ‘ah’ (or similar) sound in it. Obviously two thirds of it is vowel/sounds so I’d go for something quite consonant heavy personally. Like Gia Charlotte. But then I’m also a big fan of balancing a short name with a longer one.

I did a quick Google of famous Gias and a lot of them had Marie as a middle name which I think flows quite nicely. One also had Grace which I thought was OK.

Gia Marie
Gia Grace

Don't know if I am too late to the party but my suggestions are Gia Rachel or Gia Ruth.

Might want to look at when it was posted - baby is born and named Gia.

Thank you for the negative opinion tho

We went with Gia Liliana after my grandmother who is named Lilly - Anna

Congratulations! As I said, Gia is lovely and you asked for suggestions for the middle name. Not necessarily regarding checking when the baby was born if one is to go overdue by a couple of weeks. Enjoy your lovely baby.

Mirren22 · 30/03/2025 16:25

Lovely name, prefer Gia Rosalie. I think a 3 syllable middle name sounds nicer.

OP- YOU might want to check what you have actually written and re-read this entire thread in months to come! At no point did you say you'd given birth!!! This is your 1st mention of it! How would any of us know you went with the name Gia??? You initially posted 2 weeks ago, but how is anyone to know you'd given birth already???

I think you hormones have taken over! You made some bizarre assumptions that people were being rude about the middle name! NO, they weren't. As many of us said the exact same, that the multiple vowels with various middles names just didn't work well together with Gia.

I'm glad you found a name, without the multiple vowels that we all said, that is lovely. Congrats on the birth. Wishing you and Gia all the best x

Is two weeks, “any day now” to you?

Its not uncommon to give birth 2 weeks either side of a due date!
We still didn't know you'd give birth, nor named her Gia! Congrats.

I would pronounce it as jeer (non rhotic) anyway, whatever follows it. I can't work out how else you would say it?
