Hi! Opinions are greatly appreciated

OP posts:

I'm glad I'm not called Holly, but I concede that there is a place in the world - many places - for women called Holly and they'll probably have a happy life. It's innocent and unassuming.

LilyJosephine · 06/03/2025 23:59

Nice enough - a friendly, pleasant sounding name. It wouldn’t be my own preference - I prefer more classic, elegant sounding names. And for some reason (despite the classic Breakfast at Tiffany’s) I can’t really imagine it on a woman much older than her 40’s, unlike say similar Hazel or Molly.

But Holly is certainly not the sort of name that would do your daughter a disservice - I think it’s stayed fairly popular over the last 40 years for a reason (it’s friendly sound).

Very pretty name.

MiserableMrsMopp · 07/03/2025 00:02

Don't like names ending in eee. A bit basic maybe?

whatsthatBout · 07/03/2025 00:05

I really like it, it’s sweet but sounds a lot more grown-up than Molly or Polly for some reason.

Boodahh · 07/03/2025 00:13

A nice name,

mrsfollowill · 07/03/2025 00:20

I know 2 women called Holly - 1 a Christmas baby but the other not- both late 30's

Firsttimebabymummy · 07/03/2025 06:38

Really like

PenneyFouryourthoughts · 07/03/2025 07:08

It's a bit meh.

Though going with a theme, I do like Ivy.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 07/03/2025 07:17

I'm not keen. But I don't like any plant names for girls. Holly, Ivy, Fern, Rose, Lily, Hyacinth, Bluebell, etc... think they're all a bit wet. They make me think of fairies or cows.

I like it but regard it as an unlucky name because of the Soham Murders

1000DayChallenge · 05/04/2025 14:18

I really like it but not so keen on it spelt Hollie

That’s one of the silliest things I’ve read on here, which is saying a lot.

I've read far sillier things on here, but the murders were not because she had an unlucky name.

This is a really daft take on it and only relevant to bring up Soham if the OP already has a Jessica. She hasn’t mentioned siblings so there was no need for you to say this.

GreenMarigold · 05/04/2025 15:52

It’s ok, sounds friendly and unassuming - but unadventurous. I put it in the same basket as Emma, Sally and Daisy.

SocialEvent · 05/04/2025 15:52

As a gardener, no way. I don’t think the Holly plant is nice because I always hurt myself on it. Leaves never rot and it lurks in grass to stab at you with its spines. Polly is OK. With a world of names out there though I think there are prettier sounds than the -olly sound.

iwentjasonwaterfalls · 05/04/2025 15:52

I like it. One of the rare cases where I don't mind the "y" replaced by "ie" too - I also like Hollie.

marshmallowfinder · 05/04/2025 16:01

I like it.

BatsInSpring · 05/04/2025 21:03

I prefer Hollis or Halle

Mudkipper · 05/04/2025 21:04

I think it's had its day and that was in the 1990s.

VisitationRights · 05/04/2025 21:04

It’s a wee bit boring

Firebird83 · 05/04/2025 22:11

Dated to the 80s and 90s

Iloveanicegarden · 05/04/2025 22:14

OK as long as your surname is not Bush

Barleysugar86 · 05/04/2025 22:18

I like the name. I would feel a bit odd using it if it wasn't a winter baby though.
