This is our current shortlist! Any thoughts?

Aside from Norah I like them all I really don't get the sudden hype over this name. It's awful and frumpy. Alexandra and Olivia are the most timeless and classic. Darcie is sweet without being too frilly.

Manchesterbythesea · 19/02/2025 12:00

in order of preference..
Olivia
Alexandra
Darcy
Norah

OwlInTheOak · 19/02/2025 12:01

Olivia is very commonly used if that bothered you. Alexandera I would only use if you like the nickname Alex. Norah is nice, may be misspelt Nora is the only consideration. Darcy is also nice.

Battisborough · 19/02/2025 12:01

Olivia and Alexandra are classic and timeless. Norah is currently on trend so likely to date but quite sweet. Darci is quite a lot less classy and was very overused about ten years ago for boys and girls.

AmeliaTangfastic · 19/02/2025 12:03

I only like Alexandra but I really like it

Olivia is a bit boring now imo, North and D'Arcy just aren't to my taste

Brightyellowflowers · 19/02/2025 12:04

The popularity of Olivia is putting me off slightly, but I'm not sure how much of an issue that is....

If ds had been a boy I wanted to call him Alexandra - Ally for short. Beautiful name.

RaraRachael · 19/02/2025 12:05

Olivia is nice but very popular at the moment
Alexandra also nice but a long name for a little one to spell unless you're going to shorten in
Norah makes me think of old ladies like Norah Batty
Darcy - never liked as it has the arse sound in it

Carouselfish · 19/02/2025 12:07

Alexandra
Darcy

Norah just makes me think of gnawing
Olivia is too popular but better than Amelia

TwinklyPearlPoster · 19/02/2025 12:11

Olivia and Alexandra are hard to fault and understandably popular.

You or your DS also have the option of using alternatives Liv, Olly, Alex, Lexi, Sandra and so on

Darcy and Norah not so much.

Moreteaandchocolate · 19/02/2025 12:15

I don’t usually mind popularity but every other girl seems to be called Olivia round us so I wouldn’t use it personally.

The others are all good choices. I think my order is Alexandra, Norah, Darcy

LeopardsANeutral · 19/02/2025 12:16

Olivia is so overused now, it's not a horrible name at all, I just personally know of so many of them, it gets a bit boring.
Alexandra is classic and has good nickname potential.
Norah is my favourite on your list, but prefer it spelt Nora.
Darcy is pretty, inoffensive.

Alexandra by a country mile. I love it - elegant, bold, strong, feminine, with lots of shortening options. Love love.

Olivia - no. I liked it enough 20 years ago but it is everywhere now - peaked several years ago and continues to be mega popular. My dd is tween age and there are four in her gym class of 12 girls, two of whom share the same surname initial.
Norah is frumpy and ugly to my ears.
Darcy is a bit of a poor person's name.

Alexandra is leagues above the rest.

ThePinkPowerRangers · 19/02/2025 12:56

Darcy is awful and I would say quite trashy. Always hyphenated with Mai/Mae.

Olivia is hugely popular, there are several in my DC’s school year and are always Olivia P, Olivia H etc.

Norah I find frumpy.

Alexandra is lovely.

Neurotoxic · 19/02/2025 13:11

I actually like Norah, I think it can be kind of chic! I love a less frilly girls name and the meaning is lovely. I wouldn't worry about popularity of Olivia, it's popular for a reason and she still could be the only one in her class depending on where you are. I have a very popular name for my generation but as an adult mixing with all generations I rarely come across others.

Poor? Darcy? Nah, ten thousand pounds a year mate ;)
The Jane Austen thing would put me off though.

septemberremember · 19/02/2025 13:15

While I know Olivia is the most popular girls name, I don’t actually know any, and I’ve been to more baby and toddler classes in the last four years than I can count and have never met one! Beautiful name.

AdaColeman · 19/02/2025 13:28

Alexandra would be my choice from your list.

Olivia is hugely popular and has been for years. Darcy is a little bit dated now, after being very popular, what about Dulcie, similar sound but more timeless?
I'm not keen on Norah, have you considered Maude/Maud a name with a similar vibe?

Olivia - it's nice but has been very popular for a long time
Alexandra - nice but has been very popular for a long time
Norah - Ok
Darcy - downmarket and dated.

Not on your list but I suggest Victoria.

I've listed in order of preference. Olivia and Alex. will be shortened.
I've got an 80+ yr old Auntie Norah.

ginasevern · 19/02/2025 14:26

I like them all except Darcy which every chav in the neighbourhood has called their daughter where I live. I hear Darcaaay yelled on my council estate every five minutes.

I see what you did there! 😂

Darcy is a fabulous surname. I really don't like it as a first name.

WaltzingWaters · 19/02/2025 14:41

I’m so bored of Olivia personally.

Darcy I love. Norah is nice. Alexandra is fine.

Darcy gets my vote.

Waterboatlass · 19/02/2025 14:48

Alexandra is a great choice, best from your list. Sandy for short (love Sandy Denny).

Olivia, lovely but very, very well used.

Darcy and Norah, fine but not a fan. I prefer Norah out of the two. Nora spelling is simpler and nicer.
