This is our current shortlist! Any thoughts?

Darcey/Darcie/Darcy is dated Babies with names beginning Darc in England & Wales since 1996, celebrity-inspired, and what some other posters said.
It's awful.

MedusaAndHerFavourites · 19/02/2025 14:51

Nora or Alexandra by far.

The world has enough Olivia's and Darceys.

The popularity of Olivia is putting me off slightly, but I'm not sure how much of an issue that is....

My son has a very popular name. It's the only one repeated in his primary school class and it does my head in that the two of them are known by Name M and Name T and not just their names like everyone else. In the greater scheme of things I don't think its a big issue though.

I like them all though prefer Nora over Norah.
Olivia will be Olly or Livvy
Alexandra will be Alex
So Darcy or Nora are better IMO.

LesLavandes · 19/02/2025 14:59

I love Darcy

HouseAshamed · 19/02/2025 15:08

Norah and Darcy will get misspelt. Dulcie is truly hideous - Dull or Dulce for short.

Norah is much nicer than Nora.

KayEmAy · 19/02/2025 15:38

Lovely list with Alexandra being the clear winner for me :)

DramaAlpaca · 19/02/2025 15:44

Alexandra is beautiful.

Olivia is lovely, but became much too popular.

Norah and Darcy are both unappealing names to me.

I have an Olivia who is 20. The name was very popular when we chose it (I think it was number 1 in the name chart that year and for the many years that followed). But the thing with popular names is that it can be regional. Our Olivia didn't have any others in her year group at school, which surprised me. She has met a few others around her age but none of her friends have the same name.

I have a name that was very common in the 70s and 80s (a Biblical name). There were at least five others in my year at school, and one in my class, but it was never a problem.

Esperanza25 · 19/02/2025 17:36

My personal favourite is Alexandra and I also really like the shortened version Alex. Not as keen on Lexi, but couid get used to it.
Also like Olivia and Darcy, but feel that Norah will definitely be short lived in its current popularity.

shoopshoopdedoo · 19/02/2025 18:46

Alexandra is my favourite by far! Classic, elegant, not overdone at the moment.

Olivia is very nice but so popular.

I like Nora more than Norah, but it’s suddenly quite trendy and that would put me off. Nina is similar and lovely and less “must be 92 or 2 years old and nowhere in between”.

I don’t like Darcy at all!

moonshinepoursthroughmywindow · 19/02/2025 19:19

Love Alexandra

Like Olivia

Darcy is not really my style (surnamey names usually aren't) but is quite pretty in its own way

Just don't like Norah as a collection of sounds

bridgetreilly · 19/02/2025 19:48

I like all of them except Darcy. Norah or Alexandra would be my top choices.

Firsttimebabymummy · 19/02/2025 20:43

Alexandra gets my vote but I'm biased as have a little Alexandra!

We always get compliments about her name.

Olivia would be 2nd choice and was on our initial list.

Not keen on the others.

coxesorangepippin · 19/02/2025 20:50

Alexandra, clearly 😉

Not Olivia please, there's millions

GoldenLegend · 19/02/2025 21:34

I love Alexandra and I would shorten it to Sacha.

JanaJ1988 · 19/02/2025 21:43

Love Norah! ( not so much your other choices which are more ‘usual’j

Also love names like..

Martha
Ida
Violet
Rosa
Clara
Freda/Frida
Erica
Anya

sodabreadjam · 19/02/2025 21:57

Love Alexandra.

Can I suggest:

•Honora instead of Norah
•Daphne instead of Darcy
•Odelia, Ophelia or Octavia instead of Olivia

SemperIdem · 20/02/2025 00:43

Alexandra, by far.

Olivia is now so commonly used it’s boring.

Norah is horrible, as is Darcy

Moonlightstars · 20/02/2025 01:00

Darcy iland Norah are such frumpy names.
Alexandera is ok and like Alex
Olivia is beautiful but overused

MissedItByThisMuch · 20/02/2025 01:31

Love Alexandra! My far and away favourite from your list.
I find Olivia too popular.
Don’t mind Norah - prefer Nora without the h personally, but know of two babies born in the last month named Nora/h if that matters.
Don’t mind Darcy either.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 20/02/2025 01:49

Olivia for me of the four. I find Darcy/Darcie far too trendy and likely to date, really dislike the sound of Norah (and still get Nora Batty imagery to boot) and think classic Alexandra, while lovely in itself, is somehow a bit of a mouthful to say quickly because of its length (and unfortunately I’m not keen on the nicknames Alex, Lexi or Sandy/Xandra personally ).

Olivia is an elegant, Shakespearean classic. Like boys Oliver, it’s been popular for about 50 years now I think (so it’s not trendy despite it’s popularity); but the numbers have almost halved from its peak a couple of decades ago and are still falling - she’s likely now to be the only one in her class and at least her name won’t sound like too many others (a lot of the shorter 2 syllable names like Ava/Ada/Eva/Evie, Ella/Ellie/Elsie, Mia/Maya/Mila, Lila/Lyra/Lily/Layla etc etc can all blend). I think the nn Liv is nice too - very Scandi cool.

user1492757084 · 20/02/2025 07:01

Inspired from your list, I'd use ..
Alessia
Alexandra
Honora
Olive
Olivia

Darcy I like for a boy.

I know a girl called D'Arcy but I think big bottomed girls could be teased.

Nicolathecat · 20/02/2025 17:48

Olivia is very popular
Darcy is OK
Norah is my favourite on your list
Alexandra I like in full but will be shortened to Alex

Heidi2018 · 20/02/2025 20:41

I ADORE the name Darcy! I'm not mad about Alexandra. And quite like both Olivia and Norah.

Tabbsi · 22/02/2025 08:50

1000% Alexandra. Norah and Darcy are incredibly frumpy and old fashioned in a horrible twee way. Alexandra is strong, classic, attractive.

edit forgot to mention Olivia. Perfectly fine name but incredibly done.
