Am I going mad? Would be after FIL, Robert who is a truly amazing kind man. Wouldn't use the name without this connection. Bobbie or Bertie for short.

Love it !

renthead · 13/02/2025 06:52

Fabulous name. I always think of The Railway Children.

VividImaginationDaughter · 13/02/2025 06:56

I really like it!

Leeloo1233 · 13/02/2025 08:19

I know italian Roberta who goes by Roby

SecondMrsTanqueray · 13/02/2025 08:22

I think it’s awful, as are all the diminutives.

Emanwenym · 13/02/2025 09:02

I'm not keen but it's ok and the tribute to her grandfather is nice. Bobbi and Robin/Robyn are great. Bertie is awful.

researchers3 · 13/02/2025 09:06

Absolutely love it! Although, if I'm honest, I'm not sure I'd want to be called it myself.

CoddledAsAMommet · 13/02/2025 09:08

Love it. Its my daughter's middle name, after my dad. I would have used it as a first name but it sounds odd with our surname.

Fabulous name.

Viviennemary · 13/02/2025 09:10

It's a reasonable name but I don't think it's very attractive sounding.

Doglady1764 · 13/02/2025 09:33

Love it 🥰

Roberta is a nice name for first or second.
I would prefer it as a second name if it were my name.
As a first name it has some nice nick names ..
Roberta - Robbie, Rob

JustCuttinAboot · 15/02/2025 16:44

I personally dislike it, and prefer Robyn.

but it is a perfectly good name if you like it, nothing wrong with it at all.

I really like it nn Bobbie. It was on my shortlist for dc 3 but we had a boy.

I've only ever met two, both went by Roberta no nn. One would be in her 70s now. The other mid 30s

Anewyearanewday · 15/02/2025 20:45

I like it though probably not enough to use it as a first name. Definitely not the nn Bertie. That is truly awful.

10Pontipines · 16/02/2025 08:59

I know an 11m old Roberta who goes by Bobbie. I really like it.

Clarabellawilliamson · 16/02/2025 10:26

I have a Bobby/ Roberta! We don't know any others. Her friends call her Bob, thinking about it- so do I quite often!

Occasionally come across boys called Bobby but not many girls.

She was almost a Robin, but as she was due around Christmas time I didn't want it too 'themed'.

Jemimapuddleduk · 16/02/2025 11:42

Gorgeous! Classic but unusual.
also love Robin.

applemelons · 16/02/2025 13:55

It’s okay but similar vibe, Rebecca, is far prettier?

bluebunnys · 16/02/2025 14:38

Wouldn't Robert and Roberta shortening to Rob rather than Bob? Confused

It will also be much easier if your name and nickname have the same initials

They can. But also Bob. At least Bobs Dylan, Marley, and Mortimer seem to think so.

RogueFemale · 18/02/2025 03:45

I sort of like Roberta, but it's a bit Nigella or Colina. I'd go for a full on girly name.

user1492757084 · 18/02/2025 04:00

I agree. I prefer the feminine ilk of
Rebecca
Rose Baccara
Robin

mathanxiety · 18/02/2025 04:01

I think it's really clunky

Would you consider Robyn instead?

GingerFox2021 · 01/10/2025 19:02

Roberta is a very nice name. I don’t liked the short versions of Bobbie or Bertie, though.
I think, a real beauty is to call a child with a full name.
