Am I going mad? Would be after FIL, Robert who is a truly amazing kind man. Wouldn't use the name without this connection. Bobbie or Bertie for short.

Love it! Used it as a middle name for my daughter to honour FIL, Robert.

A timeless classic IMO.

YourWinter · 12/02/2025 17:30

I love it!

MayaKovskaya · 12/02/2025 17:31

That's such a lovely name, and what a nice tribute.
Roberta is strong and classy, and not overused. The short name Bobbie is just gorgeous! Go for it.

Motherrr · 12/02/2025 17:32

I think it's lovely and with a true meaning. Bobby/bobbie is a sweet abbreviation!

Reminds me of the railway children film

Justlovedogs · 12/02/2025 17:33

A lovely name, a real classic with plenty of nickname options that makes me think of The Railway Children film.

LuckyMoonstone · 12/02/2025 17:37

I love Roberta, and have a soft spot for Robbie as a nickname (from a childhood book where a female character was known as Robbie)

CherryMarigold · 12/02/2025 17:51

Love it for the fact that it's a tribute name and also for Bobby because I absolutely loved St Clare's as a child

MysteriousUsername · 12/02/2025 17:51

I think it's a lovely, and underused name. I know one who is Bert. Bobbie and Bertie are both good too.

bluebunnys · 12/02/2025 17:52

I know a Roberta! She's mainly Bertie.

A lovely name, a real classic with plenty of nickname options that makes me think of The Railway Children film.

Instantly thought of The Railway Children as well, with the beautifully spoken Jenny Aguter.

fandjango · 12/02/2025 18:23

I have a distant relative called this and I love it. Long version is so classy and the nick names are lovely. Quite timeless too!

scrivette · 12/02/2025 19:03

Classic and strong sounding name - go for it!

IHateWasps · 12/02/2025 19:05

It’s a very unattractive name. I’d only use it as a middle name.

KayEmAy · 12/02/2025 19:19

I really like Bobbie, I really dislike Roberta

CrushingOnRubies · 12/02/2025 19:33

Love it

It in my hypothetical baby girl name list

Love the Railyway Children so nn would be Bobbie

shoopshoopdedoo · 12/02/2025 20:01

Like it! The only one I’ve known was cool. Love an honour name.

Seashor · 12/02/2025 20:48

If my son Robert had been a girl, she would have been Roberta. It’s absolutely fabulous.

Yellowrosessmellpetaly · 12/02/2025 22:06

I love it, reminds me of The Railway Children.

Bertie for short.

Moreteaandchocolate · 12/02/2025 22:38

A lovely classic but I’m actually not too keen on Bobby or Bertie nn’s for a girl.

ShittyShouter · 12/02/2025 22:44

Beautiful name and tribute. I would use Ro for short.

theduchessofspork · 12/02/2025 22:45

I know a Roberta nn Bobbie

I like it a lot, and Robin is a nice short form too

SoNiceToComeHomeTo · 12/02/2025 22:46

It's a beautiful name. Go for it.

Clingfilm · 12/02/2025 22:50

Gorgeous, strong, classic.
Not keen on Bobby, totally different vibe but it's your baby!

Waterboatlass · 12/02/2025 22:59

I love it! I've known some awesome adult Bobbies

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 13/02/2025 01:33

Robin would be the only first name I would use for a girl to honour a Robert. Has a pretty sound, nice nature links and with this spelling is a semi-classic (Robyn tends to rise and fall with trends more). “Bobbie” could still be a nn if you wanted.

Sorry, but imo the “Bert” sound is an ugly one (possibly as it’s quite close to “burp” 🤣)- I think we’ve gotten used to it for boys because Robert is such a historically popular classic with some great namesakes, plus “Dirty Bertie” (like the kids books) is a cute nickname for a messy toddler. But personally Roberta would be a middle name only for me - although a lovely one in your case to honour your FIL.
