Appalling except for Robert.

Dodonutty · 28/01/2025 22:55

Well Robert is a good option

OneWaryCat · 28/01/2025 22:56

My husband really likes Clement, Clem for short.

NeedSomeComfy · 28/01/2025 22:57

Cecil has an ugly sound.
Clement similar.
Robert - fine.
Hector - reminds me of posh idiots I knew at university.
Edmund - fine although it will always be associated with the boy who betrayed Aslan in The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe for me.

namechangenan · 28/01/2025 22:58

@NeedSomeComfy you summed up my feelings exactly!

TriangleLight · 28/01/2025 22:58

No just no

user2848502016 · 28/01/2025 22:58

Cecil and Clement are awful! The others are nice

Luminousalumnus · 28/01/2025 23:00

Robert is fine. I also like Clement, but I think we may be on our own with that!

Yes I can hear you Clem Fandango is all I can hear

Temporaryname158 · 28/01/2025 23:00

Robert is the only good choice. A selection of not very nice names I don’t think and wouldn’t want to be lumbered with them myself

i know a Clem, he isn’t very nice!

ru53 · 28/01/2025 23:00

I like Clement. Clem for short.

Not keen on the others. I don’t like hector as I associate it with the word hectoring…

TriangleLight · 28/01/2025 23:02

You can’t call a child these names 🙈 Robert is at least unremarkable

HundredPercentUnsure · 28/01/2025 23:03

Edmund, nn Eddie is ok. Others just no.

How about Vincent or Ralph or Reggie ?

Nellyelephanty · 28/01/2025 23:04

Love hector!! Was on our list

SabbatWheel · 28/01/2025 23:05

Edmund is the best of that list.

TheBirdintheCave · 28/01/2025 23:06

Nice list! All unusual (bar Robert) but genuine names, great work!

Sorry OP. Posh idiots is good description of the type of person who springs to mind for all these names. Or a spaniel. Maybe with the exception of Robert.

Marcipix · 28/01/2025 23:07

Edmund is okay.

Vincent and Reggie are terrible. Worse than the OPs own list.

MeAndMyCatCharlotte · 28/01/2025 23:09

I couldn’t do that to my son.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 28/01/2025 23:09

Robert is ok.
The others, no.

Richard
Ross
Jonathon
William

Cluelessbee · 28/01/2025 23:10

Edmund and Robert are okay.

WellsAndThistles · 28/01/2025 23:10

Unless you are naming agricultural vehicles, they're all awful except Robert (nn Robbie to be less old fashioned).

LeavesOnTrees · 28/01/2025 23:12

Are you French ?

shoopshoopdedoo · 28/01/2025 23:26

Robert is the only one that feels quite neutral. Maybe Edmund, though I think Edward is nicer. All the others feel quite strongly associated with a particular demographic in the UK and I’d avoid on that basis. I prefer names that could more easily belong to anyone eg. James - could be the king, could be in prison, you wouldn’t be able to guess from the name! Obviously this is totally subjective.

And Blackadder ...
