What do you think of the name Sinead?

Still strugglin with girls names.

One that wasnt immediantly dismissed and is now the first girls name we have actually considered serious, was Sinead.

We have a Nicole, Lauren and Serena. Someone on another thread pointed out that all have E and N in them. and they work well together. Does Sinead fit in there?

I say go for it. I have three with Irish names much wierder more unusual than Sinead and nobody has that much trouble pronouncing them. Spelling now, is a different matter, but then nobody can spell anything right these days.

and am not sure why, but I think Emma goes well with the other three.

i also keep returning to Emma/Emily but peter doesnt particually like those names. His consultant was Emma, and th two ladies at livelifethengivelife and Emma and Emily lol.

Sinead is lovely - one of the few Irish names that everyone knows how to pronounce.

I have to admit, though, that I adore Bernard.

yes - like matilda but without the 'a' sound. sounds gorgeous with an irish accent!

Sinead is a fabby name if you can stand telling people how to pronounce it

I think it's ok as a name BUT I also think that if you're not Irish(maybe you are!) then it's a daft thing to do.

but lots of parents chose names outwith their own culture - why not

kittywise, my dads side of the family have old irish roots, does that count?

dd3 is serena dixie. i love the name dixie but we arent that brave to use it as a first name. i do regret not using it as her first name though.

If you love the name go for it, I don't think it matters too much about your heritage/ cultural background.
You might want to reflect that in the names you choose for your dc, or you may not give a flying fig and choose a name just because you like it.
I have Irish names for my dc's, but I am from an Irish background. However, my friend (Jamaican descent) called her dd Sinead, and it really suits her.

Is nice and goes nicely with the others as does Emma/Emily.I am however too chicken to try and spell it now it is no longer on my screen!

Any advance on Bernard for a boy? will you be finding out? what about second names?

If its a boy, he will be called Issac. But i think bernard will work for a nick name. dh kept saying he would call dd1 bernard as a joke if she was a boy, and now its a long running joke.

am hoping to find out at 20 week scan.
