sylvia or silvia - from the latin for woods or forest.

tearinghairout · 08/05/2008 20:17

Or you could go completely down the margarine route and call her Flora Clover, - or to show you're not prejudiced against butter, Flora Clover Buttercup

tearinghairout · 08/05/2008 20:24

I also thought of

Amber
Ruby
Emerald
Beryl

and, the name of a lovely little old lady I knew once - Bunny!

Going back to the point about thinking whether it would sound OK for a Professor or Prime Minister - Professor Bluebell Smith - do you think that, one day last century, a certain Mrs Obama sais to her husband "I'm thinking of calling him Barack. Does Barack Obama, President of the United States sound OK'?" Bet her husband would've said "Nah, but I like that name, we'll call him that anyway"

jk1 · 08/05/2008 20:40

Bunny is really cute!

no1putsbabyinthecorner i love violet as a name

Thankyouandgoodnight · 09/05/2008 07:15

I love Violet too but DH thinks it's too much like 'Violent'......we are really not agreeing on any names at all!!!

I was thinking Alba as in Dawn (Spanish), but Scotland is so beautiful that it seems even prettier, now.

CocodeBear · 10/05/2008 06:26

Has anyone said Myrtle?

Thankyouandgoodnight · 10/05/2008 09:21

I keep thinking of Myrtle myself but then remember 'Moaning Myrtle' and the idea goes away again!

I'm so shallow.....

I like Taree. It beans branch in japanese

Thankyouandgoodnight · 10/05/2008 19:40

What do you all think of Sol? It means brightness. I know it's also short for Solomon and hence a boys name but do you think it still works as a girls?

OP posts:
1066andallthat · 10/05/2008 22:56

And to carry on the theme - Sol is sun in Spanish , so while I am here:

Luz - light
Luna - moon (and yes, I do know a little girl)
Flor - flower
Rosa - pink and rose
Blanca - white
Mar - sea
Nieves - snow

treacletart · 10/05/2008 23:08

Butterfly, Paloma

choosyfloosy · 10/05/2008 23:11

I'd also be far too narrow-minded to have thought about Condoleeza as a suitable name for a high-ranking politician either. OK then, Vote Bluebell!

1066andallthat · 10/05/2008 23:59

Can't keep away - Paloma is dove and pigeon, so not so pretty, go for Scotland, any day .

Thankyouandgoodnight · 11/05/2008 11:52

Do you guys mean 'Scotland' as a name in it's own right or another word that means Scotland?

OP posts:
suedonim · 11/05/2008 14:46

I know an Alba, it's a good name. And has anyone suggested Aurora? Or even Dawn?

chefswife · 11/05/2008 15:09

Sequoia/ Sequoya
A large coniferous tree found on west coast NA and grows to heights of 300ft (91m)

I love this name but DH and I are going with Violet May if we have a girl
