Can't help as I love the name Marnie!

MumChp · 12/01/2025 20:43

Clara Lorena surname

Bienemaias · 12/01/2025 20:43

Corina is lovely

Deebee90 · 12/01/2025 20:45

I love Marnie and I love Clara as my niece is a Clara

Bob02 · 12/01/2025 20:48

I love Rowan and Keira. If I could only pick from your list I'd go for Clara.

LoveB · 12/01/2025 21:00

Love Marnie and Clara! How about Iria or Aurelia?

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 12/01/2025 21:01

Clara and Lorena are my favourites and also have a similar sound so hopefully you can find a good compromise x

BrendaSmall · 12/01/2025 21:03

Not keen on any of the names really, I do prefer your husband’s list better though

BobbyBiscuits · 12/01/2025 21:07

Marnie is nice. The last one is phonetically Al-va? Is that right? I'm thinking it would get misspelled and mispronounced a lot, it's cute though.

Moreteaandchocolate · 12/01/2025 21:17

All of your name ideas are nice - Clara, Elena, Corina and Lorena are my personal favourites - all lovely. So hard to choose, isn’t it?!

Theemperorsnewshoes · 12/01/2025 21:26

Marnie or Clara.

If I had to choose just one then Clara.

mathanxiety · 12/01/2025 21:27

I can't for the life of me understand the appeal of Marnie.

Lorena is very nice, and so is Elena. Both would easily fit into both cultures.

Clara and Corina are also very nice (though I'd prefer the A spelling - Carina). Again, both would fit into the two cultures.

Ailbhe would be a really hard name for the Latino relatives and for any future residence in H's country of origin or ancestral home. Alvy might work better.

If you want an Irish name that would work in a Latino context, would you consider Orla, Fia, Fiona, Nora, or Cara?

Alternatives:
Cora
Vera
Alma
Lara

Overall, I'd say Elena would be my choice, with Clara a close second.

Elena Ailbhe
Clara Lorena

FraterculaArctica · 12/01/2025 21:33

Corina or Clara (in that order of preference). Don't like your DH's names at all, and Ailbhe is nice but hard to make work in a mixed heritage family.

Snowmanscarf · 12/01/2025 21:36

Lorena - no
Elena - like (or Eleanor)
Marnie - love
I like
Clara - ok
Corina - ok
Ailbhe - wouldn’t know how to pronounce

Alternatives
Leona
Arianna
Maria
Sadie
Freya
Emilie

Elena Ailbhe
Clara Lorena

Thanks for this answer!

I agree, Marnie is my least favourite of the lot! Ailbhe we would probably spell Alva to save confusion.

I love Cara, but it means face in Spanish so a no-go and I have 3 cousins called orlaith which is another of my faves 🙄.

Lara is lovely! Adding it to the contenders!

Whatisityoucantface · 12/01/2025 21:55

I like Ailbhe best of your choices. I’d ignore comments about it being difficult to pronounce given a) you’re Irish and b) people (especially family) get on board with spelling and pronunciation of baby names !!

How about Nora, Onora, Nola, Maeve, Elora?

Thighdentitycrisis · 12/01/2025 21:56

Marnie. As I briefly had a lovely friend when about 5 (many years ago) and she moved away suddenly. It was the first time I felt a connection with someone that was broken

Mumofgirls2017 · 12/01/2025 22:02

Elena or Clara are beautiful 😍

Clara Lorena surname

Sadly our surname ends in an A too, three in a row sounds odd 🤣

Correct! I think we'd consider spelling it Alva as spend a lot of time in Spanish speaking countries

Clara

Epanoto · 12/01/2025 22:07

Or Elena

Userxyd · 12/01/2025 22:08

Clara is gorgeous, so is Elena but she'd be pronounced totally differently by the two cultures I think? Eg like Eleanor vs Elaine-a?
How about Martha/Marta?

LostMyLanyard · 12/01/2025 22:09
  1. Elena
  2. Marnie
  3. Clara

Actually like all of the names, but these would be my top 3.

soberserene · 12/01/2025 22:10

I love Marnie and Clara.

The others are a bit meh to me.
