@Goscat if you spelt it that way it would kind of sound a bit Spanish too! It's cute.
I like Luz, but in English it sounds like 'loose' which is not great.
I love Spanish and Irish names though. I'm sure you'll choose a good one. Having both those cultures is awesome.

Funnily enough, Luz will be her middle name! (Family name)

@Goscat I love the name!! I guess in English it's more about getting them to pronounce it like 'Luth'. Lol. I adore it xxx

Luckily won't have that problem! Spain is the only country that use the 'th' sound. Latin Americans say loo-z literally like the English word lose 🤣

@Goscat ah ha! Looz is cool. I think it's just British people think of loose, then loos- toilets-loose bowels? Lol maybe I'm overthinking it. 🤣

If you like Ailbhe (pron. Alva ?) then how about Alba or Alma ? Both have a beautiful meaning in latin/spanish and are pretty international.

I'm not really in love with any of your names but it sounds like we've got very different tastes - I had Seraphine and Célestine on my list, to give you an idea. Marnie sounds very nicknamey to me, like a diminutive more than an actual name.

Elena is inoffensive if very commonly used (perhaps less so in the uk ?) and would probably be my top choice from your list. Corinna is ok too but sounds old-fashioned to me.

Maxorias · 12/01/2025 23:06

Just throwing that out there but Lucia has the same meaning as Luz.

I also like Azul as far as latino names go but couldn't justify using it (I live in south america but I and my kids are 100% not latino)

MadameSzyszkoBohusz · 12/01/2025 23:13

I’d be tempted to go alliterative - Clara Corina or Corina Clara. Then she can be CC if she likes neither when she’s older.

Sadly our surname ends in an A too, three in a row sounds odd 🤣

Not in Spanish though...

I know a lot of Hispanic women in the US and they have names like Cintia Maria Garcia, Ana Esmerelda Rivera, Luisa Isabela Vega...

WellsAndThistles · 13/01/2025 01:58

I love the name Marnie but she was the big (fat) scary bully at Primary school that seemed to tower about a foot taller than the rest of us, I swear you knew she was behind you as there was a flipping great big shadow.

Bournetilly · 13/01/2025 02:04

My favourite is Elena.

Eenameenadeeka · 13/01/2025 04:56

Clara

My fave is Elena

Carina Luz
Clarissa Luz
Marina Luz
Leonor Luz

MumonabikeE5 · 14/01/2025 00:45

Elena Corina has a nice roll.

Starsandall · 15/01/2025 16:53

Clara and Elena for me.

Rowen32 · 15/01/2025 17:01

They're all lovely but Marnie feels like a nickname for marmalade and reminds me of sarnie too, the rest are gorgeous. Unless you're living in Ireland maybe spell it Alva..

Lyn348 · 15/01/2025 17:11

I hate Marnie - to me it's a marmalade sarnie - a Marnie 😂.
Clara and Elena are a bit prissy, 'Sound of Music' sounding to me. They are children who would have a governess!
To me Ailbhe is just a random collection of letters and Corina makes me think of Cortina (the car).
So for me it's definitely Lorena. Sounds classically beautiful IMO.

Carmen?

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 15/01/2025 17:24

Of your lists Elena would be my top choice - it’s just so international and quite classic sounding. But I agree with pp that Lara is a good shout for that reason too, as is Clara from your list.

I quite like Alva too, although it’s less commonly used and really love Marnie as a nn for Latinate Marina or Mariana (but find it a bit trendy on its own). Nothing wrong with Lorena or Corina, just less my style.

Not sure how well they would work in Ireland but some Latinate or Ancient Greek classics seem fairly international- thinking of ones like Julia, Antonia, Claudia, Talia/Thalia, Cecilia/Celia, Serena, Selena etc?

Funkyslippers · 15/01/2025 17:27

I love Helena. It's my dd1's name

PreggersWithBaby2 · 15/01/2025 20:30

Lorena - no
Elena - no
Marnie - like it
Clara - love love love
Corina - no
Ailbhe - like it

First suggestion that came into my head was Alba
