How many do you know?
I am worried in a few years there will be loads of them and it will really date, a bit like Sharon and Tracey

I know 2

SNoraWotzThat · 03/05/2008 13:07

Do you say it the same as EMily?

bluefox · 03/05/2008 13:08

It is a lovely name but always makes me immediately think of the poor McCann family.

schneebly · 03/05/2008 13:09

I know one little girl with Amelie as a middle name. I think it is very pretty and not all that common at all

jellybeans · 03/05/2008 13:11

I know of one pronounced arm-a-lee.

meep · 03/05/2008 13:13

I know one - she is lovely!

MyDingaling · 03/05/2008 13:17

SNora - pronounced AMelie
It's the only name me and DH agreed on but now I am not sure

If you say it in English (ie not with exaggerated French accent) it sounds very like Emily said with a vaguely Southern Hemisphere accent. My only observation is that it is a French name and therefore seems a bit odd if you are not French.

AbbeyA · 03/05/2008 13:48

I prefer Amelia.

ExtraFancy · 03/05/2008 13:51

Makes me think of that film - whimsical and cutesy!

sillytilly · 03/05/2008 13:52

I prefer Emilia

bigknickersbigknockers · 03/05/2008 13:59

I love the name Amelie, though I dont know anyone with the name Amelie in RL.

MyDingaling · 03/05/2008 14:01

I like Emilia too sillytilly but DH doesn't

I like it and I know one (4yo).

pootleflump · 03/05/2008 14:28

I think it's a lovely name if you're french but when I hear someone shout for their little Amelie, I think it sounds a bit silly without a nice european accent.

Pavlovthecat · 03/05/2008 14:30

I love it. This was the alt name for DD, she got my preference, Amelie was DHs preference, although we both loved it.

expatinscotland · 03/05/2008 14:31

My maternal grandmother was called Amelie.

She was French, though.

Pavlovthecat · 03/05/2008 14:47

expat - we liked it because it was french - from the film Amelie, who DH fancied, and who some people said I look like (my male hairdresser mainly)

CountessDracula · 03/05/2008 14:55

Amelie is one of my least favourite films
Cute name though
I know a couple

alfiesbabe · 03/05/2008 15:43

Lovely film. Bit odd to give your child a French name unless you're French though!

Janni · 03/05/2008 15:44

I don't know any. I think it's really pretty.

sillytilly · 03/05/2008 16:04

I agree - lovely if French but I have to admit I cringe a bit when I hear it in this country

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 03/05/2008 16:55

too cutesy and airy fairy. And very popular after the film.
