Ellie, Elsie, Phoebe and Ella

We took a few weeks to think everything through, then added these four names to our list. Any thoughts?

Ellie - Elsie - Ella - Phoebe

The others on the list: Ruby, Keira.

For any of you who are interested; we decided to use Rosalind as the middle name, so that part has finally been decided. So it would be Ella Rosalind, Keira Rosalind, Ruby Rosalind, Ellie Rosalind etc.

We took Lucy/Lucie off the list, because we couldn't decide on the spelling and we took Annabel/Annabelle off, because I personally don't love just Anna and think it might get shortened.

I like Phoebe best.

Phoebe Rosalind is very cool

PreggersWithBaby2 · 03/01/2025 00:11

Elsie reminds me of Elsa which makes me think of Frozen. I like Phoebe and Ruby the most. As an Irish person I hate the spelling of Keira; for me it would be spelled Ciara

mathanxiety · 03/01/2025 00:21

Ellie and Ella are pretty much the same name, and Elsie is very much in the same box.

Ruby is a bit 'blowsy barmaid' imo.

Keira is nice but a bit dated.

I like Phoebe best.

WellsAndThistles · 03/01/2025 00:25

I love Elsie but would put Elspeth on the birth certificate.

R names don't work with an R middle name imo.

Other E suggestions- Everly/Everleigh, Eirlys and Elana.

Jeeeeez · 03/01/2025 02:15

Elsie/Ella/Ellie all just overused to point of being saturated.

Raindropskeepfallinonmyhead · 03/01/2025 02:47

Another vote for Phoebe

Moreteaandchocolate · 03/01/2025 03:10

All are lovely. Phoebe, Ruby, Kiera and Ella are my favourites personally- I can imagine them being equally as lovely for my primary and secondary aged children as well as myself.

Theoldwoman · 03/01/2025 03:19

Please use Ella.

we recently lost our Ella aged 21. She loved her name and she was a kind and caring young lady.

I’m so sorry. A beautiful name and such a terribly sad loss at such a young age. Thinking of you and Ella’s family.

Emanwenym · 03/01/2025 07:54

Ellie - Ella - El- names have been around too long and are too popular
Elsie - I don't like it
Phoebe - fine
Ruby - OK but I don't really like it
Keira - don't like it

My picks: Lucy (this spelling), Phoebe, Anna.

Rosalind is very pretty, but not with Ruby

I think it depends on the surname. Middle names aren't used much.

I like Lucy (no need to consider Lucie that’s just a bit off), Phoebe and Elsie!

Ruby is like PP said a bit blowsy barmaid. Ellie is a nickname from a longer name.

FrogOnAYuleLog · 03/01/2025 08:01

All fine IMO except Ruby Rosalind. Agree with PP, it conjures up barmaid visions.

We have an Elsie and it was such a good choice. She loves her name and everyone can pronounce it and it always sounds beautiful, in every language. It has not once been confused to Elsa or Ella or other names that 'blend in'. I love that the name is vintage but sounds fresh and we use a cute nickname Els 😍

HPandthelastwish · 03/01/2025 08:38

Elsie / Ellie - weak as first names fine as a shortening of something else like Elspeth
Ella - massively popular already and similar to the above
Ruby - again popular a few years ago
Keira - bit old fashioned
Phoebe - fine

I'd go with an -et name
Juliet
Harriet

Pillarsofsalt · 03/01/2025 08:39

Another vote for Phoebe Rosalind ❤️

FatFiatMultiplaWhopper · 03/01/2025 08:39

Phoebe for sure. The whole Ellie/Ella thing is so overdone and bland, and I'd put Elsie in that category too now.

FatFiatMultiplaWhopper · 03/01/2025 08:40

@Theoldwoman I'm sorry for your loss.

boysmuminherts · 03/01/2025 08:41

They're all nice and popular names. My boys are teenagers and I know girls with all those names in their age groups. Keira is probably my favourite.

Treemules · 03/01/2025 08:47

I think any of those are a good choice other than Ellie which is very dull (Eleanor lovely though). The Annabel’s I know get shortened to Annie, which I love.

aSpanielintheworks · 03/01/2025 08:59

I do love the name Phoebe but working in a Reception class, it has to be the HARDEST name for a four year old who is being taught how to phonetically spell!
Ph-f oe-ee be-bee

I love older names like Margot, Mabel etc so my favourite on your list is Elsie.

It's nowhere near the hardest name!

Emanwenym · 03/01/2025 09:19

@DorianMeile , the pp works in reception, so probably has seen many struggle with it. The Ph, oe and the e are tricky. DD used to call her friend Peebee.
