'Tis a lovely name

duchesse · 02/05/2008 10:58

I'm assuming we're not talking 'bout chickens?

HairyToe · 02/05/2008 10:59

reminds me of Birds of a Feather "My Darryl"

God, all that teenage time wasted reading Aldous Huxley and Zola when I could have been finding out about..other...stuff!

Bensonbluebird · 02/05/2008 11:18

Don't like Darryl - mainly because of a Daryl at primary school (Daryl the barrel... always at the bottom of a bundle).

Journey · 02/05/2008 11:39

Sorry I don't like it. I think Darryl needs a stronger and more masculine name to go with it. Timothy is far too weak, so in my opinion it makes the name unbalanced.

Pinkjenny · 02/05/2008 12:29

OMG - Forever was so rude. My copy was hidden under my bed.

cyteen · 02/05/2008 15:25

I'm sorry...I really really hate it. Had a Darryl in my primary school class (teacher's pet + total wet soppy girly girl) and a Daryl in my secondary (wet + annoying boy), which probably didn't help.

panties · 02/05/2008 15:41

My step sister has a Darryl, he is ALWAYS called Daz by each and every friend and teacher he has, only family call him Darryl. Do you really want a DAZ

collision · 02/05/2008 15:43

am not keen

cheesesarnie · 02/05/2008 15:49

collision -my ds2 cant say ds1 name so calls him daz(its nothing like daz).i hope no one thinks its his real name.he cant say dd's name either.so we have doll and daz

CantSleepWontSleep · 02/05/2008 17:24

Don't like Darryl either sorry, but can't object to Timothy as it's my dh's name too.

pointydog · 02/05/2008 17:37

Darryl - no.

No

pointydog · 02/05/2008 17:38

It's one of those names like Ashleigh - very girly for a bloke

unknownrebelbang · 02/05/2008 23:57

I quite like Darryl.

A relative has this name, and it's never been shortened to Daz (well as far as I know).

unknownrebelbang · 02/05/2008 23:58

lol - and my nephew is an Ashley, pointydog.

Not girly at all, even though it is a unisex name. Guess it depends on associations.

toomuchmonthatendofthemoney · 03/05/2008 00:10

don't like darryl, esp with 2 r's! daryl if you must but not rr!
makes me think darryl hall and & john oates and dodgy 80's quiffs.

rebel . I'm sure men called aSHLEY can be manly. It's just the name. Do you live in central-ish England? For some reason, that's where I see Darryls and Ashleys living.

unknownrebelbang · 03/05/2008 23:42

Funnily enough pointy...yes I do.

Just made me smile, as I do know a female Ashley (bit younger than nephew) and it seems a bit out of kilter, probably because my nephew is a couple of years older iykwim.
