Erin and Aisling are the nicest from that list imo.

if you want Irish Irish go for Aisling - I say that as someone who had Erin (which is more
Irish American) as a no 1 choice girls name for my son 😅

FloofPaws · 06/12/2024 06:05

Aisling is the prettiest IMO
I also like Caiomhe

Moreteaandchocolate · 06/12/2024 06:06

I like them all - Erin, Cara, Caitlin and Roisin are my favourites.

FloofPaws · 06/12/2024 06:06

Caoimhe*

BootballJoy · 06/12/2024 09:55

Aisling is my favourite from that list. My favourite Irish girls' names are Aoife, Caoimhe and Fiadh.

Rainbowandgrey · 06/12/2024 16:46

I love Róisín, but it looks wrong without the fadas to me. Sorcha might give people trouble depending on where you live?
I know Erin is used a lot but it is a bit Irish-American to me and the Katelyn pronunciation of Caitlin also jars a bit.

Berlinlover · 06/12/2024 16:48

I dread to think how some of these names would be pronounced in England, Scotland or Wales. If you’re in Ireland it’s fine.

Lottapianos · 06/12/2024 16:49

Where do you live? I have one of those names - grew up in Ireland, now live in UK and it does get wearing when lots of people can't pronounce or remember your name

MissyB1 · 06/12/2024 16:51

I love Erin, it was my girl choice - but I got a Patrick instead 😊

Erin - there's nothing wrong with it but I don't really like it. (Mean girl vibes)
Cara - like it
Caitlin - don't like 'kate-lyn'
Sorcha - not sure how to say it. (sorka vs soruh-ka)
Roisin - like (rosheeen) but not 'current'
Aisling - like but not 'current'

Apparentlystillchilled · 06/12/2024 19:29

I’m Irish living in England and my youngest is Cara- love the meaning and it’s easy for people to pronounce.

when we got a dog 2 years ago, I thought Aisling would be a breeze but the “Ashley? Isn’t he a nice boy” comments are already getting v old.

FriendlyNeighbourhoodAccountant · 06/12/2024 19:31

I think with Sorcha you'll get "sorsha" a lot outside of Ireland (if that's a concern).

My favourite has always been Clodagh.

Cosycore · 06/12/2024 19:42

I love Sorcha

Saoirse is preferable to Sorcha in my opinion. If you want to anglicise it, go for Sorsha.

BootballJoy · 06/12/2024 09:55

Aisling is my favourite from that list. My favourite Irish girls' names are Aoife, Caoimhe and Fiadh.

I have a Fiadh - such a pretty name

Saoirse is preferable to Sorcha in my opinion. If you want to anglicise it, go for Sorsha.

"Sorsha" sounds closest to Seoirse. Which is George.

AnonymousArmadillo · 06/12/2024 20:38

I have a Cara and an Aoife. Irish names are beautiful.

Cara is my favourite from your list obviously.

Catlover1705 · 06/12/2024 20:46

Maeve and Niamh

salamithumbs · 06/12/2024 23:15

I like Cara the best! Followed by Aisling and Sorcha

theduchessofspork · 07/12/2024 00:06

I love Caitlin and Sorcha, I love Aislinn (not so much Aisling) - I'd probably go for Caitlin, as Cait/Kate is such a classic and underused in that generation.

Not so keen on the rest, and I'd tend to think of Erin as more American and Cara as Italian.

BibbityBobbityToo · 07/12/2024 00:10

I say this as a Scottish person - Unless you live in Ireland I would avoid any with a Celtic spelling to save them a lifetime of explaining/correcting.

My favorites are Maura and Kerry.

Janedoe82 · 07/12/2024 00:10

Blaithnaid or Clodagh

WarmFrogPond · 07/12/2024 00:12

Caitlin is Irish-American (unless you’re pronouncing it Coyt-leen or Coytch-leen and spelling it with the appropriate fadas), as is Erin (which is an uneasy alliance between a packet soup brand and calling your child after a country).

Probably Cara or Sorcha, as long as you’re not labouring under the delusion it’s pronounced Sore-sha (not assuming you are, but people do).
