Name Ideas for baby no 2!

MummaDaisy · 26/11/2024 21:29

Hi all!

just found out I am pregnant with baby no2! And I know I’m getting wayyyy ahead of myself but I feel like naming a baby is the hardest thing and I’d rather get some ideas sooner rather than later!

We of course don’t know about gender yet, but I have more girl ideas than boy ideas so suggestions for boys are especially welcomed!

Our first daughters name is Fauna and I’m looking for naturey sort of names and bonus points for names beginning with F! My partner is also Irish so id love to find an Irish name!

Names I like so far include:
Flora
Fionn (but that’s DP’s brothers name)
Fern
Fiadh
Frankie

let me know all your suggestions!

This is a joke right? Surely you're not actually thinking of calling your children Fauna and Flora?

Moreteaandchocolate · 26/11/2024 21:59

No we genuinely like the idea of it as they go together of course. What would be so wrong about it?

@Calliopespa @Fireworknight @Moreteaandchocolate
thanks for all your suggestions! Got some good ones in there! I personally like Forest but my partner won’t go for it as he just thinks of Forest Gump 😂😂

Because children exist for their own individual life fulfillment not to be part of some jokey cutesy pair which will make people cringe or snigger when they hear it.

BootballJoy · 26/11/2024 22:39

I love Flora, but it doesn't go with Fauna as it's too much of a pair. A bit like if you had kids called Sonny and Cher, or Mary and Joseph, or Bill and Ben, or Pepper and George, that kind of thing.

I really like Fiadh

Nature names or Irish names:
Delphina
Silvana
Caoimhe
Aoife
River
Wren
Aisling
Phoenix
Linnet
Blossom
Bluebell

Fáelán
Fox
Wolf
Bear
Rio
River
Robin
Tarn
Linden

I@NeedSomeComfy
i understand you may feel that way but respectfully they’re my children so I can name them whatever I like. If you genuinely believe that a name completely defines someone and their personality is solely their name then that to me is ridiculous. I like the idea of my children’s names being similar and almost pair like as it demonstrates our close family values.

just because you cringe, snigger and bully someone for their name, doesn’t mean everyone will and tbh just tells me all I need to know about your personality x

@BootballJoy
yesh I get what you’re saying with the pair, I guess it’s not for everyone! Flora is of course just one on my list but I just am not 100% for it that’s why I’m looking for other suggestions too but there’s a good few mentioned already.
I really love Faelan for a boy! Thanks for that suggestion!!!

Of course, you are absolutely within your rights to call your child what you like.
Personally I demonstrate my own close family values by making choices for my children that will minimise the chances of them being bullied or made fun of in the future. But you do you.
Out of interest, if you had a third child would you consider Funga?

MummaDaisy · 26/11/2024 23:09

@NeedSomeComfy
Thanks Katie Hopkins, but in our house we treat people with kindness and respect no matter their names.

if I had a third child I’d definitely consider Funga, just to rage bait ppl like you 😂😂

It's ridiculous, that's what's wrong about it.

I wouldn't put fauna and flora together. Use a non nature F name or a nature name that doesn't start with an F.

sunsettosunrise · 27/11/2024 07:14

I adore Fern.

Frankie seems to be very trendy, and I have a feeling it might date. If that influences your decision.

I was just about to say the same.
Flora and Fauna indeed 🙄

I’m not sure Fern goes all that much better with Fauna than Flora. Still forest floor vibes.

I do love Flora though.

If must be F, I love Florence.

LochKatrine · 27/11/2024 07:19

If this is genuine, then avoid F for another child. They're not a matching set. If you like slightly unusual names from the world of nature you could go down the well travelled route of Willow, River, Summer etc.
Or try something slightly different like Inigo, Bathsheba, Coral, Cedric, Gray.

GoodVibesHere · 27/11/2024 07:24

This can't be real surely nobody would call their children Flora and Fauna? It's a phrase or well-known pairing, I assume you know that OP? It's ridiculous, c'mon be real.

Calliopespa · 27/11/2024 07:27

What about Faun and Satyr🤣

Atishooo · 27/11/2024 11:08

You can’t use Flora and Fauna together! You know it’s a well known phrase/expression/discussion and a conservation charity?

3CustardCreams · 27/11/2024 11:13

To be fair, Flora and Fauna is a bit silly.
You’d think you were in a David Attenborough documentary. I

Charlotte120221 · 27/11/2024 11:47

you can't do Flora and Fauna as a combination even if you like both names. It's like having Laurel and Hardy or Mark and Spencer. It's not people being nasty it's just a fact.

Fleur and Fauna is also tricky …

Wren and Fauna, Clover and Fauna, juniper and Fauna, Hazel and Fauna , Daphne and Fauna etc all sound like those short descriptions on the back of an arty greeting card that describes the subject of the illustration on the front eg:” Cow In Clover “ by Margery Artiste

I think Fauna just needs a name like Caroline or Molly to avoid these effects OP.
