I like Enid the Welsh way, where the first letter is pronounced like the beginning of 'egg'.

dizzydixies · 27/04/2008 22:49

not bowled over but its nice

I think its def a grower

pointydog · 27/04/2008 22:57

oh no, I wouldn't

cece · 27/04/2008 23:04

We considered it for our last baby.

pointydog · 27/04/2008 23:05

maybe that's because your name is almost the same as cecy's

cece · 27/04/2008 23:06

I didn't like to say

collision · 28/04/2008 23:05

Makes me think of Enid Coleslaw from Ghost World. Not that that's a bad thing. Still not sure if I like it or not though...

lou222 · 29/04/2008 17:09

enid sharples !

MrsBadger · 29/04/2008 17:40

I quite like it - was on our 'non-girly girls' names' list for a while

others included
Ruth
Helen
Judith
Zoe
Polly
Susan

actually have the whole thread

belgo · 29/04/2008 17:41

I think it's fine. Very unusual.

Ceolas · 29/04/2008 17:43

I will always associate it with The Worst Witch, but like it. Not sure I'd actually call one of my children Enid though as it's a bit too unusual for where we live.

Middle name depends on your last name. How many syllables?

jk1 · 30/04/2008 12:36

I think it is fine - also liking Esme & Erin

tummytickler · 30/04/2008 17:09

This was in our top 3 for ds along with Dorothy and Winifred - although he was a he so we didn't use it in the end.
Would definately be high up on pur list next time though.
Our combo was Enid Violet.
I love it!

slinkiemalinki · 30/04/2008 17:21

Ooh no. Not just old lady but nasty old lady, sorry, but I knew one when I was small and it has coloured my view of Enids.
Erin is much nicer and a little similar.
Also think Enid Blyton!

Like it, was my lovely fragrant grandmother's name - although it has to be said that she was never particularly proud of it...

CristinaTheAstonishing · 03/05/2008 06:39

How about Edith?

MrsJohnCusack · 03/05/2008 06:42

snap with moondog. worked with a lovely woman called Enyd, E as in 'egg'

CristinaTheAstonishing · 03/05/2008 06:43

How else could you pronounce the first E?

CristinaTheAstonishing · 03/05/2008 06:44

I mean the only E?

CocodeBear · 03/05/2008 07:43

As 'Ee' instead of 'E', Christina.

Is normally 'Eeenid'; can be pronounced 'Enyd'.
