Hey everyone. Camille, Winnie and Nellie are our current top contenders for our little girl. Just came on here to hear some thoughts/any name similarities you may have. Thank you!

xx

I actually met a 4 year old Winnie earlier at a playgroup. She was a lovely little girl but everytime her parent called her name it sounded odd. So I'm not sure I like it.

Camille is lovely, sophisticated on an adult but quite cute on a child too

Nellie is OK on a toddler. Nell works better abd avoids Nellie the elephant

BootballJoy · 12/11/2024 21:36

I have a feeling Camille will be the favourite on here, but I don't love it with an English pronunciation. Names like Winnie, Nellie, Minnie, Dottie etc are quite popular these days - I was surprised when i first heard them as they were so unfashionable when I was younger, but you get used to them. I think my favourites in that style are Effie, Emmy, Cassie, Peggy and Bessie.

StressedQueen · 12/11/2024 21:38

I don't like Winnie at all but Camille and Nellie are both nice. Would Nellie be short for Eleanor?

MissRoseDurward · 12/11/2024 21:40

Not keen on Winnie or Nellie. If you like Nellie as a nickname, I'd go for Helen/Helena/Eleanor/Elinor so she has a choice as she grows up.

LadyGabriella · 12/11/2024 21:41

Camille is the most sensible option. Winnie would need to be short for something like Guinivere and likewise Nellie… Leonora?

Fireworknight · 12/11/2024 21:45

I think they have different vibes.

Camille sounds French and is the most classy if the three.

Winnie and Nellie are more old English names. Is Winnie short for Wilhelmina? Nellie always sounds like a nn to me also - Helena, Ellen, etc ( and reminds me of Nellie the Elephant).

Of the three, Camille is easily my favourite.

AutumnalLeaves38 · 12/11/2024 21:50

Camille is really lovely.

Equally for a child and adult.

Moreteaandchocolate · 12/11/2024 22:46

Nellie is definitely my favourite! I don’t think it needs to be short for anything (although I also love it as short for Penelope or Eleanor). I know two baby Nellies born in the past year, so I think it’s becoming normalised as a standalone name around me.

I do know a young Winnie but I’ve never grown to like the name despite the child being lovely. I still think of Winnie the Pooh or a horse noise!

Im not at all keen on Camille - it sounds a bit old fashioned (in a frumpy way) and the different pronunciations put me off.

SerenityNowInsanityLater · 12/11/2024 22:56

Bonnie

RobertaFirmino · 12/11/2024 22:56

Winnie and Nellie put the poor child at risk of severe teasing. Smelly Nellie, for one.

Pieceofpurplesky · 12/11/2024 23:05

I love your name choices.

I also love Delphine

salamithumbs · 12/11/2024 23:07

I really dislike Winnie and Nellie so definitely Camille!! I think it's a cute name but will sound mature for when she grows up whereas Winnie and Nellie sound very infantile to me

Lisanoonan · 12/11/2024 23:17

I like Camille. There is one in emily in paris and she is so elegant.

salamithumbs · 12/11/2024 23:18

Sorry just saw you asked for similar names. What about:
Annie (on its own or as a nickname for Anneliese)
Bonnie
Cassie / Cassia
Callie
Carrie
Camellia
Elsie
Lottie
Millie
Maisie
Nancy
Tessie ( for Tessa)

Snorlaxo · 12/11/2024 23:31

I would pick Nell over Nellie as I’m old enough to remember Nellie the Elephant.

Winnie makes me think Pooh so would avoid on those grounds.

Camille is the best - very French and sophisticated vibe.

user1492757084 · 13/11/2024 01:10

My preference is Camille.
I like Camilla even better with the more certain pronunciation.

Others you might like ..
Ellen
Helena
Anna Beth
Calico
Callidora
Maisie
Kitty
Penny
Dimity
Linley
Mietta
Minnie
Molly
Dolly

mathanxiety · 13/11/2024 02:46

I love Nellie and Winnie.
Would they be short for anything? I feel abbreviations should be avoided on the birth cert.

Winifred, Eleanor, Ellen, Penelope?

Camille seems a rather wispy name.

Viviennemary · 13/11/2024 02:51

Nellie is dreadful. Winnie pretty bad too. Camille - not keen. Somebody suggest Elsie. Much nicer.

Firsttimebabymummy · 13/11/2024 08:00

Camille is my favourite. The others sound like nicknames.

My friends horse is called Winnie, and when it's shouted I could never imagine a person, personally. Nellie as a nn for Eleanor?

ItalianChineseIndianMexican · 13/11/2024 08:02

I like Nell but not as keen on Nellie.

Princessfluffy · 13/11/2024 08:14

I like Petronella

shoopshoopdedoo · 13/11/2024 09:10

I like Winnie.

Camille is nice in France but not so much if based in the UK. Camilla works better but has the Royal issue.

I really don’t like Nellie, though I do like Nell(ie if you really wanted) as a nickname for Helen/a or Eleanor.

Manchesterbythesea · 13/11/2024 09:12

Camille is beautiful, very sophisticated and works for all ages. Winnie is awful and Nellie is just a bit no. Nell is nice though.

pinkdelight · 13/11/2024 09:18

Camille is the best by far. Think about it - would you like to be called Nellie or Winnie? Really??

pinkdelight · 13/11/2024 09:21

(Plus if you go for Nellie everyone will spell it Nelly so it's a lifetime of correcting that.)
