Hey everyone. Camille, Winnie and Nellie are our current top contenders for our little girl. Just came on here to hear some thoughts/any name similarities you may have. Thank you!

xx

Camille is just gorgeous. Far nicer than the others

It's amazing to see all these very old -fashioned diminutive names making a comeback.
Personally, not a fan of any of the 3, but as was suggested by a PP, Helen, Helena, and Eleanor are lovely for child, and also for an adult woman.

MrsMoastyToasty · 13/11/2024 19:36

I knew a Nellie who was really Helen and a Winnie who was really Winifred. So I think of them as nicknames (both ladies would be about 100 now if they were still with us).

sarahsandupp · 13/11/2024 19:37

I love Winnie it's just so lovely

StormingNorman · 13/11/2024 19:39

I have a short name as a full name and beg you to use Winifred or Eleanor/Eleanora on the BC if you go that route.

RedRobyn2021 · 13/11/2024 19:40

I like all of those names

pixie12 · 13/11/2024 19:43

Love Winnie and Nellie

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 13/11/2024 19:45

I like Camille, but only if pronounced the French way tbh. Not keen on 'Cameel'.

Nikitaspearlearring · 13/11/2024 19:45

I love Camille. Sounds very sophisticated. The others don't although Nell is OK. Reminds me of Dickens' Little Nell.
I also like Petronella and Delphine that pp's suggested.

pinkdelight · 13/11/2024 20:37

Nellie = elephant
Winnie = pooh

Daffyyellow · 13/11/2024 20:39

Camille, not a favourite but Cammie as a nickname is lovely.
Winnie, too horsey, sorry.
Nellie, elephant, I just can’t. Love Eleanor or Helena though and Nel for either as a nickname.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 13/11/2024 22:33

Camille is nice enough (although I personally prefer Camilla). And I like simple, pretty Nell - but Nellie is an elephant to many people and Winnie is the Pooh. May or may not cause teasing, as kids might not be aware of the references or care - but personally I wouldn’t risk it and would stick with Camille of the 3.

If you like French names and/or “ee” ending ones you might also like Sylvie, Romilly, Rosalie, Amelie or Coralie?

alanthecat · 13/11/2024 23:40

Camille is the best by a country mile. Nellie just makes me think of the elephant (tune in my head as soon as I saw the name) and Winnie is too closely associated with Pooh or witch. Sometimes on these threads people come up with negative name associations that I don't think would affect a child born in 2024 (because their peers wouldn't have heard of them) but Winnie the Pooh and Nellie the elephant are still well-known by people of all ages.

mrspresents · 14/11/2024 07:46

Camille is the best by far. Winnie I just can't see how it's nice and Nellie makes me want to say 'the elephant'.

WhereAreWeNow · 14/11/2024 07:48

Camille. Definitely.

Nell is pretty but not keen on Nellie.

Not Winnie.

FayCarew · 14/11/2024 11:48

Love Nell but not Nellie, like Winnie if short for Winifred oe Winona, Camille is OK but will be Cam-Eel in the UK and is sounds a bit like an East Anglian fish.

Cammie is awful. Cammie-Kazi
