Morag - what do you think?

I am thinking that i am coming 'round to the name Morag.
My 6 year old is reading the Katie Morag books at the moment and i have been thinking about this more and more.
dh is Scottish so it is nice for him, and i like the nn's Mo and Aggie.

Possible combinations:

Morag Susannah
Morag Juniper
Morag Eileen
Morag Primrose
Morag Ophelia

I am not expecting a wonderfully positive response! My dd loves it though!

I really like the name.

And I am sure that if I heard it more often I would be able to get Morag from HOme & Away out of my mind (and it's been yeeeeeeears since I watched H & A )

brimfull · 25/04/2008 20:09

Morag is lovely I think.

I like susannah with it best

Roobie · 25/04/2008 20:09

I think it's a grower. I used to live in Scotland though so knew several and hence may be more accustomed to it.

brimfull · 25/04/2008 20:09

I love Agnes even more

Disenchanted · 25/04/2008 20:10

It sounds like a cows name to me

sorry!

brimfull · 25/04/2008 20:10

I love Agnes ,was my gran's name

thirtysomething · 25/04/2008 20:10

I think it's very pretty, but you will need to be prepared for people's reactions as it's generally associated with women in their forties and fifties! But if it's your choice then go with it as you may start a trend!

brimfull · 25/04/2008 20:10

oops how did that happen

collision · 25/04/2008 20:12

Not keen myself.

doesnt feel like a pretty name and not sure I would want to be 14 or 15 and called Morag.

What sort of surname do you have?

bobsmum · 25/04/2008 20:12

I like it - I like Morag Susannah best too. I know a lot of nice Morags

Aliway · 25/04/2008 20:12

I think as your dh is Scottish it would be fine to use this name personally I like Morag Susannah, the others are not to my taste, with Susannah she could use that name as an adult Juniper as an alternate name could prove more problematic...

ChutneyMary · 25/04/2008 20:17

Love it ! Have a great friend called Morag and DD1's favourite toy is named after her. I think it might be difficult to carry off without the scottish connection but you have that so go for it!

southeastastra · 25/04/2008 20:17

nice with a scottish accent

tummytickler · 25/04/2008 20:19

Hi - surname is double barelled and sounds like 'barmy-tombstone'.

DH and i like Agnes too. but we have liked it for ages and now it seems a little flat iykwim.

I have been thinking i like Susannah too - it would honour 2 lovely people in both mine and dh's family too - and dd has a friend called Susie (Susannah) so she would be chuffed to bits also!

Now i just have to actually get pregnant - damn it!

I like it but I like Susannah more.

chickenmommy · 25/04/2008 20:27

Morag Susannah sounds the best combination to me. Lovely scottish name

dizzydixies · 25/04/2008 20:27

I know several and they all get Mo

woldn't be to my taste but there is nothing wrong with it IYSWIM

littlemissturquoise · 25/04/2008 20:34

It is my middle name and we are thinking of using it for the middle name if we have a daughter. It means "the great one."

Aero · 25/04/2008 20:34

I really like the name Morag. Having hated it when I first heard it (thinking H&A characher), it has grown on me immensely over the years. Goes beautifully with Susannah too I think. Also, Susannah is a fairly 'safe' name if your dd decides she prefers it iyswim.

FranSanDisco · 25/04/2008 20:39

It's not a name that travels well imo. If it's said with an accent other than Scottish it sounds quite hard to me. Sorry.

allgonebellyup · 25/04/2008 20:39

sounds like a witch's name. sorry.

fairyfly · 25/04/2008 20:42

I think Morag is a Witch name in a kiidys book isn't it, also a witch from Starwars, thats prob why you think that

Nancy66 · 25/04/2008 21:00

I'm afraid it just makes me think of an old crone. Not a fan at all.

MrsMuddle · 25/04/2008 21:15

She'd get called Morag the toerag.

I like how they say it in the Highlands - Mor'g, but not how they say it in Glasgow - Mo-rag.

LyraSilvertongue · 25/04/2008 21:17

Morag is an old lady name imo. I don't like the hard g sound at the end.
