Still struggling for ideas for a December baby. Suggestions other than Noelle?

Do they need a December themed name? Me and my two siblings were December babies and our parents just chose names they liked. I don't think I would have wanted a December/Christmas name.

Christabel? Means beautiful Christian but feels subtly Christmassy to me. And lovely Welsh Eira means Snow and Eirwen means Snow White.

Natalia/Natalie is the obvious one for me though, even more than Holly, Ivy, Noelle etc.

PrincessOfPreschool · 02/11/2024 23:38

Clara for the nutcracker (and it's a lovely name)
Mary or Maria (underused in this generation)
Eve 😂
Scarlett
Angel/ Angelica/ Angelina

I love some of the Welsh names PPs have suggested.

I have a just before Christmas baby and really wanted a non-seasonal name. We didn't know what we were having and our first boy choice was Joseph. Only thing that put us off was that it was so associated with Christmas and people might think that's why we'd chosen it.

I'd only choose something like Ivy for a baby due nowhere near Christmas or midwinter.

I have a Joseph. He's now an adult.

He was born on May the first.

Many years later I found out that that is the saint day for saint Joseph the worker.

People may well have assumed there was something deliberate in that. There wasn't.

Why tie yourself up in knots trying to think of a "December" name? Why not just choose a name you like?

May be I should have added more context to this. I was thinking subtly December related. It’s not that I’ve decided it must be December related in an obvious way. It is a bit of a family tradition I suppose. We already have a Noel and Christmas in the extended family (though they are older 60+) and also May, June and April. This has gone on for generations

Speaking as a December baby in her 40's, I would absolutely hate to have a themed December/Christmas/Winter related name.
It's bad enough celebrating a birthday around that time when everywhere you look is 'Christmas' stuff without that also being your very identity too.
No thanks. I'm very pleased I have a normal name.

PiggieWig · 03/11/2024 14:23

Another December baby here that isn’t keen on a themed name. It’s hard enough to get people to squeeze in a birthday celebration among all the festive commitments.

At a push, Robin would be ok I suppose.

ScruffMuffin · 03/11/2024 18:17

As well as the usual Holly, Ivy and Carol... Natalie, Stella, Estelle, Caroline and Robin are great ideas! I came on here to suggest Natalie, actually.

How about Gabrielle as an alternative to Gabriel? And Marie or Maria as an alternative to Mary?

ScruffMuffin · 03/11/2024 18:19

Beth?

Newhorse · 03/11/2024 18:32

As a pp has said, December is really not a great time of year to be born (can’t be helped, I know!) as every year it is subsumed by all the general preparations and celebrations for Christmas. I had a childhood of dreaded joint presents with nothing for the rest of the year.
He/ she will probably be grateful to have their own identity, without any connection to Christmas.
First world problem, but please don’t do it!
