Until recently I always thought of it as American but my friend told me it was very old fashioned and not a nice sounding name.

my dp is set on this name, I prefer Frank but he is set on Franklin.

two weeks to go please help us to decide

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I think it's lovely.

squidgem · 02/11/2024 19:25

I like it

KizzyDora · 02/11/2024 19:26

It's nicer than Frank.

KnickerlessParsons · 02/11/2024 19:27

I prefer Francis

I don't know that I'd say it isn't nice, but it isn't a name I've heard in anyone under 60.
However old people names are coming back around again at a brisk rate so Franklin way well be back for all I know!
(I was really bemused by the first baby Arthur I Met 10 plus years ago, now they see everywhere 😆)
As far as I am concerned Frank is a shortening of either Francis or Franklin, so I'd call him one of the full names and let nicknames develop as they will. Frankie seems likely for a baby!

shoopshoopdedoo · 02/11/2024 19:46

I love Frank, but prefer it as a nickname for Francis than Franklin.

mm81736 · 02/11/2024 19:48

Too American.

Moreteaandchocolate · 02/11/2024 19:53

I like Frankie a lot for a child but I'm not massively keen on any of the more formal versions - Francis sounds too feminine to me, Franklin sounds a little American / comical to me, and just Frank makes me think of Frank Butcher. All just my personal associations of course and I'm sure as soon as I met a little Franklin all those other associations would fade into the background.

Pigeon123456 · 02/11/2024 19:54

I love it.

Sk1sk0 · 02/11/2024 20:04

I like it!

xyz111 · 02/11/2024 20:04

It will always be shortened to Frank. So you'd get your way anyway 😀

MerryChristmasToYou · 02/11/2024 20:39

Frank is enough. Franklin is too American.

KickboxingWanker · 02/11/2024 20:51

Went to school with a Franklin - always called Frankie.
He was very popular when the Sister Sledge song came out.

thebrowncurlycrown · 02/11/2024 21:00

Franklin on the bc.
Frank as the nn.

Pregnant with a baby girl but before I knew the sex, Franklin was my number 1 boy's name choice. DH vetoed it though!

Go for it OP.

RedToothBrush · 02/11/2024 21:02

It's spot on trend so not old fashioned but will date badly.

I like it but worry about it's longevity. It's a name which will be easy to identify roughly how old your son is.

Deannaamy · 02/11/2024 21:03

My Dad & Brother are Franklyn. Dad goes by Frank though

FloralMoon · 02/11/2024 21:26

Absolutely love Franklin/Franklyn - it’s a great choice and with cute nicknames

Firsttimebabymummy · 02/11/2024 21:27

Really like it.

RuthW · 03/11/2024 16:42

Franklin is a modern name. I like it.

namechangeGOT · 03/11/2024 16:44

Franklin is a fabulous name. I love it.

HazelSquid · 03/11/2024 16:44

Hmmm it’s giving turtle or tortoise - I can’t quite remember why though.
I prefer Frank, a solid no nonsense name.

oakleaffy · 03/11/2024 16:45

The Franklin Expedition.

A hard no from me!

oakleaffy · 03/11/2024 16:49

It has a tease -ability rating, unfortunately! ( An activity which rhymes with Frank)

FromCuddleLand · 03/11/2024 16:51

I think it is mint

theduchessofspork · 03/11/2024 20:23

It’s pretty popular at the moment
