Uton. Named after his mum's favourite place--Luton.

I've also met a woman with 'Jordon' tattooed on her arm, because she'd just given her DD the name. She was actually naming her after Katie Price. But when she went to the tattoo parlour she couldn't remember how to spell Jordan--and nor could he!

Celery · 29/04/2008 01:44

boy/girl twins Pele and Cartier.

beforesunrise · 29/04/2008 08:53

minedragon- surely NOT Pudenda? sounds like someone out of life of brian!

speaking of successful lawyers with bizarre names i give you... Tarot! (male) trainee lawyer in my company. sweetest boy so can't really hold a grudge.

itwasntme · 29/04/2008 09:01

I used to teach a girl called Yekcim.

She was named after Mickey (as in mouse).

Spelled backwards

Really

petitmaman · 29/04/2008 11:40

kay1981 · 29/04/2008 14:12

I HOPE I dont qualify as weird, my DS is Dillan, as in the irish way of Dylan!

Alderney · 29/04/2008 14:16

My friend was a midwife and encountered an Yvonne pronounced Whyvoney and a Pocahontas.

I was once served in a supermarket by a Nyckholah (Nicola)

My name is Sharon, but its pronounced as Share-On rather than Shaaahhron and that has caused me problems all my life.

And I have definately seen lots of stories in Take A Break about a Handrew

MrsMattie · 29/04/2008 14:18

Did anyone watch that programme 'Britain's Youngest Grans' last night on BBC3? There was a girl on it called Rickieta. Rickieta. WTF.

StealthPolarBear · 29/04/2008 14:27

she sounds nice and healthy

bluefox · 29/04/2008 14:43

Once heard of the name Melena - I think its also a medical term for blood in ones stools!

serenity · 29/04/2008 15:08

Melina is a greek name meaning honey (Mel e na rather than mel eeee na if you get what I mean)

Knew a child called (I thought) Amber-Lyn, turns out her name was AnnBoleyn (one word). Mum seemed really nice.

beforesunrise · 29/04/2008 18:07

ohhh I love AnnBoleyn!!! you have got to admire the guts! and has a nicer ring to it than AnneofCleves

today a friend told me of a girl called Amaryllis...

pigleychez · 29/04/2008 18:29

pigleychez · 29/04/2008 18:30

BellaDonna79 · 29/04/2008 18:56

Madmuggle, thats all well and good but these people aren't american... and are open about how lovely they thought JonBenet sounded, seriously considered it but thankfully decided they would have to drop the 'jon' because of the connotations...

ah well, maybe they hate my DCs names

Scotia · 30/04/2008 11:14

From another website I visit - joop! - complete with exclamation mark.

Buckets · 01/05/2008 14:41

'You will never win the I-know-a-stupid-name competition against anyone who has ever lived in Hong Kong.'
Yes, they choose their own Western names there don't they? Ex-colleague of mine went to college with a guy called American Express (Amex for short.)

ninedragons · 01/05/2008 15:05

They do, sometimes with the assistance of some bored arsehole English teacher who thinks it's funny to send someone out into the world called Chuck Norris, Lucifer or Oral B (all real people)

reallyodd · 01/05/2008 21:51

at friend's DD's school - Falon (girl) and Drey (boy)...

panties · 01/05/2008 22:07

I met a llibbeemaee today. (Libby-May) why all the extra letters!

prettybird · 02/05/2008 08:42

A little bit the other way around, but when we were on holiday in South Africa, we met a wee boy called Sinjen. His parents had liked the name St John, but had changed the spelling to make it easier for him at school.

Hallgerda · 02/05/2008 09:21

raye123, I too know a Taichi pronounced tie-ees. I think it might be a real name from elswhere in the world (Africa or the Caribbean?) Unless of course you're in Streatham and we know the same one?

floaty · 02/05/2008 10:48

Tiphainie,Danyal ,Manhattan and Buster all known here ,the Manahattan has a surname which makes her sound like a seedy film.

Hallgerda · 02/05/2008 11:32

Correction - I know a Taychi pronounced tie-ees, so it's not the same one
