Zowie, was supposed to be zoe!

madmuggle · 28/04/2008 16:18

BellaDonna, I had a friend called Benay, i's a reasonably normal American name from all accounts

petitmaman · 28/04/2008 17:53

Kategarden. that is weird. surely a baby's name is a huge part of their identity when they are little. what do they call him at home? "oi, you"?
though I have heard that in china they are becoming desperate for original names as there aren't many surnames. suggestions anyone?

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 28/04/2008 17:57

My friend called her girl KT. I kept asking her how she was going to spell it (thinking Katy or Katie) - she just kept saying KT. We went round in corcles for a while before the penny dropped and I shuddered inside.

Circles even.

ggglimpopo · 28/04/2008 18:13

beforesunrise · 28/04/2008 18:31

once on a flight there was a little boy called Ziggy (reckon David Bowie is responsible for a lot of horror names).

ManxMum · 28/04/2008 18:44

Hey, PictureThis, you from the Island?

My DH is a Joo-an!

How about Breda? (Breesha)

kategarden · 28/04/2008 19:02

Littlefish · 28/04/2008 19:30

There is a little girl at my sister's school called Heaven-Leigh.

Words fail me....

evenhope · 28/04/2008 21:56

Holly- her mum is probably a Virginia Andrews fan scroll down to the reviews

HollyGoHeavily · 28/04/2008 21:59

That doesn't make it any better

ShowOfHands · 28/04/2008 22:05

New girl at toddlers: Cherysh.

I struggled with a polite 'oh that's lovely'.

undervalued · 28/04/2008 22:08

Sharne?? Kariss??? Juan - pronounced jew-un and finally Chavorne
I work in a school so see a lot of these....

brrrrmmmm · 28/04/2008 22:28

Bonkerz - Emer and Oisin are totally normal Irish names ..... not weird spellings or made up!

Janni · 28/04/2008 22:33

I really think they should employ more registrars with a touch of the Ann Widdecombe about them, who would take these parents aside and tell it to them straight.

undervalued · 28/04/2008 22:44

I have seen the parents of afore mentioned 'poppets' and , trust me here, they are never told it straight. sadly

ninedragons · 28/04/2008 23:16

My husband used to work with a Chlorophyll. She's a very successful 40-something lawyer.

A good friend used to work with a Flysnake.

And I've met a Pudenda. Beat that

You will never win the I-know-a-stupid-name competition against anyone who has ever lived in Hong Kong.

expatinscotland · 28/04/2008 23:19

I worked with a woman who had a daughter called

T'hani. Pronounced, Ta-hahney.

And another daughter called:
V'nice. Pronounced 'Vah-neese'.

alfiesbabe · 28/04/2008 23:29

Rockzanna. Rocky for short. . Seems to be more of a problem with girls names - I've also come across a Linzee, Mellony, Aimee, and Emilee.
Also, what's with this thing about taking a perfectly good name that starts with C and changing it to K eg Khloe, Kristopher? Weird.

amazonianwoman · 29/04/2008 00:12

Taneesha
