Down to 3 names, middle name will be Michael after grandparent.

Barney (my favourite)
Alfie (DH's favourite)
Harvey

The purple dinosaur reference doesn't bother me, pretty sure that will not be on anyone's radar for this new generation.

Be kind 🤣🫣

Any other similar suggestions? I guess I like nicknamey names, but nothing too popular.

Barney is a fairly common name in my culture, I like it the best of the three

YouWouldntKnowWhatIMean · 17/10/2024 20:03

I really like Barney! That gets my vote.

Alfie or harvey definitely

MeowCatPleaseMeowBack · 17/10/2024 20:04

Definitely not Barney.

Nicebloomers · 17/10/2024 20:05

I prefer Alfred or Barnaby. Alfred Michael is my favourite. Barney is nicer than Alfie. Not keen on Harvey.

Waterboatlass · 17/10/2024 20:06

Alfie if short for Alfred (I personally don't care for short forms). Out of those three, Harvey.

MrsPositivity1 · 17/10/2024 20:07

I love both Barney & Alfie

Stripeandsquare · 17/10/2024 20:07

Barnabas or Barnaby with a nickname of Barney is cute!

Alfie feels way overused at this point. Not keen on Harvey personally but nothing wrong with it.

Tobias with Toby as a nickname is lovely.

Nap1983 · 17/10/2024 20:07

They are all very Meh to me, all similar. I really like Michael though and good if you want a nick name

GiftWrappedSuburbanDreams · 17/10/2024 20:09

Harvey

If I'm honest i agree they're all a bit overused -y name. Michael sounds a lot stronger and fresher as well as more classic

Buttercup2023 · 17/10/2024 20:20

Thank you so much for the replies so far! I am so happy there are some positive responses to Barney.

I agree Alfie is quite a popular type name, I personally don't know any little Alfie's, but many A names like Archie, Albie, Arthur, Arlos etc, so am worried he might just blend into all of them.

We love Michael, but definitely only for a middle name, the family member is still alive and has the same surname so we want to use it more as a nod, rather than giving his full name. But we did toy with it as like Micky or Mikey as nn.

I really like Barney, Harvey is okay. I really dislike Alfie and it's overused in my area.

Thewalrusandthecarpenter · 17/10/2024 20:48

Barney is my favourite. I love Barnaby as a BC name too.

Where are you from if you don't mind me asking? It would be interesting to know where it is popular and used more, I have never met a Barney myself!

Barnabas is pretty cool and a bit different, Barney for short

UltramarineViolet · 17/10/2024 20:58

I LOVE Barney

I'm much less keen on Alfie and Harvey

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 17/10/2024 21:05

I don’t mind some of the “nickname” names but those ones are a bit cutesy for me - fine on a toddler, but not so great for an adult imo (though I’m aware there will be loads of adult Alfie’s about in the next decade or so!). I guess Alfie’s the best of the bunch for me.

But have you considered Barnaby instead of Barney? - at least a bit more surname (so slightly more serious) than cute. Classic Harry instead of Harvey? (unfortunately Harvey can be seen as a bit low brow by some thanks to it’s soundalike to comic book/motorbike Harley). More traditional sounding Alex instead of Alfie?

I do love Michael though! 🤣

pilates · 17/10/2024 21:19

I like Barnaby on bc and Barney for nn

mumTTCno2 · 17/10/2024 21:33

Alfie is my favourite

BootballJoy · 17/10/2024 21:58

Michael nn Mickey is my favourite of your list, as it's the least popular by far. (I do quite like Alfie though esp as short for Alfred).

I like Barney and while I am usually a fan of using the longer name, I actually think Barney works OK as a name in its own right, like Sally.

Elzibells · 17/10/2024 22:06

I like Barnabas nn Barney as PP suggested. Alfie is my favourite though. I think it's lovely even if popular.

Harvey is a no from me. Always makes me think of Katie Price.

Moreteaandchocolate · 17/10/2024 22:15

My favourite is Alfie, followed by Harvey. I’ve never met anyone called Barney, so it’s associated with kids tv characters to me (and therefore sounds quite comical), but I’m sure that would change as soon as I met a little Barney!

Mumofgirls2017 · 17/10/2024 23:03

Alfie is definitely the best!
