Title says it all really. Duckie is out.
Second favourite is Spike.
I also really like Dot and Dusty.

We actually called my son Dusty as a joke when he was born because he didn't have a cute baby smell, he smelled like musty old library books 😂

I knew a child called Spike about 17yrs ago, he was a handful, but I actually quite like the name, MN is a bit judgemental over names.
I like Misty more than Dusty.

Edited

Misty reminds me of the girls comic in the 1970s!

Get yourself three dogs, use the names on them. Don't mess up your child.

kolalumps · 04/10/2024 22:47

Name is a gift you give the person from birth, and it shapes their identity.

If you want to give your child a weird name, go right ahead. Spike, Shank, Shiv, Hammer …

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 04/10/2024 22:55

Nope.

Pebbles16 · 04/10/2024 23:01

Please try something a "little more ordinary".

Tralalalalalah · 04/10/2024 23:02

Love Spike. Spike or Sid were my choices for a boy

Soshiny · 04/10/2024 23:03

I also have Clem (after the wrinkly demon)

he was a fav of mine! Such a good floppy eared guy @WhappleBee

Wilder? Hunter? Rocky? Butch? All solid options.

Rocky? Butch?! As in, names for dogs?!

MyOwnToes · 04/10/2024 23:06

Dusty

Spike? Really?

Come on , really. ???

Snugglemonkey · 04/10/2024 23:13

Dorothy/ Dorothea (Dot as nn) I think is grand. I would not pick it as dot is an insignificant thing to me, but Dirothy is God's gift, which I cam get on board with.

Dusty I love. Possibly biased there as I know a man Dustin, with a Dustyn, also Dusty daughter and she totally rocks it. I did initially think Springfield, but this girl has made it her own and it is very cute. I also love that she is one of twins but the other is named after the mother, only that is slightly less obvious.

Mrsknowitall · 04/10/2024 23:15

Do you even like your unborn child 😂

ColinRobinsonsFart · 04/10/2024 23:18

I had an aunty Dorothy and she was called Duckie! And a great aunt Doris and she was called Dolly.

TeflonMom · 04/10/2024 23:24

Don’t listen to these closed-minded old fashioned slipper shufflers of Mumsnet. Ducky is great, so is Dusty.

I know a girl called Candy, it totally suits her and is a fabulous name.

Friends of ours have named their children all sorts of wacky and wonderful names like Tiger, Pixie, Wolf and Birdie.

We hear lots of unusual names in the playground and on days out nowadays.

Some suggestions:

Queenie
Sonny
Cher
Shay
Stella
Deveraux
Woody

So you really love the land before time? Cera or Petri might be a better bet.

I know a Dusty and a Dot, I don't know if either are nicknames. That's what they're known as.

Edingril · 04/10/2024 23:29

Bojo? Terrapin? Orange? Chair? Therapist? Volvo? Pluto?

sadeightiesthrowback · 04/10/2024 23:40

Spike's ok, how about Django?

Prounounced "Jango" silent D.

You're naming a future adult human, not a pet.

BenditlikeBridget · 04/10/2024 23:45

Have you considered Alan?

Bazinga007 · 04/10/2024 23:47

Spike is a dog's name.

sadeightiesthrowback · 04/10/2024 23:50

Axel? Gunnar? Dalston? Lenin? Duke? Lash? Almanzo?
