Help! Punchy, unusual French girl names

Baby girl is here and nameless, so I need your help please!! I need a name that fits the following criteria:

  • punchy (by that I mean something that has some energy and strength to it)
  • something that is not commonly used in the UK, but ideally something that isn't considered made up either. It would be great if it's something that isn't really dated in France too
  • something that is French, or at least pronounceable in French. I don't mind if the pronunciation is a little different in English and French

Any ideas? I would be most grateful!

The Anais I know uses Anay as the pronunciation herself, and I never realised this was not the traditional French version! I would easily manage the correct pronunciation as soon as explained - what a lovely name 😊

Noel Gallagher’s daughter is Anais. I’ve never heard him refer to her by name, so I’m interested how he pronounces it. It is a beautiful name, congratulations.

She's written somewhere that her parents have mispronounced her name, so she accepts that pronounciation and the correct one!

Wild card would be Corisande, I love it but it’s very rarely used!

I've never heard this. Makes me think of coriander!

bleuclair · 24/09/2024 16:21

Séraphine
Camille
Inès
Léna
Océane

bleuclair · 24/09/2024 16:24

I hesitated about Océane but I'm sure it's not dated. None of those names are unusual for young people in France though.

I know a Miette (I think it means something like small and sweet).

She is a bit of a tornado now, at 18.

Gastropod · 24/09/2024 16:52

I love both Aude and Maude...
Also Manon, pronounced the French way, though I think it's kind of ugly sounding in English.
And Eve. Maybe a bit too common in UK though...?

CheerfulBunny · 24/09/2024 16:57

I love Zoe, Ines and Marie-Claire. French names are beautiful and so chic.

Congratulations to you too!

And are there many babies with your first name?

Pascale is a middle aged name in France.

High time there were little Traceys, Julies, Susans and Alisons in the world!

I think of the ones mentioned already Anaïs, Aude & Inès fit the bill.

Not sure if these are ‘punchy’, but I also like:

Maëlys
Sidonie
Sabine
Lys
