What strange nickname stuck with your child?

What unexpected nickname stuck with your child? I'm not talking about Alexander becoming "Alex" or Evelyn becoming "Evie"...I'm talking much more bizarre, that often has nothing to do with the name at all.

At home my sons are affectionately known as Muggins and Skeet. Skeet hasn't started school yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if he chooses to introduce himself that way!

Scar or scary… it’s connected to his name (Oscar) but I never expected him to introduce himself as “scary” to his friends. I wonder what his friends parents think if he’s spoken about at home.

Not my children but my late uncle always, always called me Slack. It was because I loved the chuckle brothers when I was little. Stuck for all 35 years though! 😂

My DD8 nickname is Hawkins. Her dad (my DH) likes to add kins onto names when being affectionate so for example, Poppykins but then may shorten to just call them kins. He's from the NE and when he would say ahhhh Kins when she was a baby it sounded like Hawkins and it's stuck. She is as likely to be called Hawkins as she is by her actual name now.

We still call our 13 year old Monkey since she was a cheeky monkey toddler!

I call my son Bude a lot. Similar to his name tbh but no idea why, it's very random but does rhyme with his name😄

We call my son Taz - he was like the cartoon Tasmanian devil when he was a toddler - he's in his 20's now!

Mine answers to nugget, boy and noodle.

However a child I once knew thought his name was Lemon because that's what he'd been called for most of his life by his sibling who couldn't pronounce Lennon and it had stuck. It genuinely took him ages to realise it wasn't his actual name poor lamb.

'Kaboo' our husband uses it more than me - it's after they once made a sound like 'Kabooboo' when they were about 6 months old and DH loved it and still calls them Kaboo or The Kaboo sometimes (they are 16 now).

A university friend had a brother everyone called Rack and I'm not even sure anyone remembered why. Even his teachers called him Rack!

Monster Munch and the diminutive form of his name with y - boo boo on the end. I can hardly remember the time I called him his actual name .

I know a Ben whose real name is Dave and found out most of my husband's friends' names on their wedding days! Mainly related to surnames.

I went to school with a girl who was Boo for a lot of her childhood as she was Eleanor / Wellanor / Welly Boot / Boo!!

Mine is Gabs!

My Mum thought I waddled like the geese from Aristocats (the Gabble sisters!) when I was a toddler, so she used to call me Gabble, which then got shortened to Gabs.

People are very puzzled when I explain that Gabs is not short for Gabriella, as my real name could not be any further removed from Gabriella

My dad calls me Trish and I'm in my 40s. Trish is in no way related to my name, he liked a character on a TV show with that name when I was born and so I've always been Trish, but only to my dad.

It's not that strange but I call my DD Bear, ever since she was a baby and I called her my little baby bear

My baby hasn't got any yet as she's too young

BUT my nn for years has been Tallulah which is nothing at all close to my name and I don't even know why.

I moved around 2years ago so have a new circle of friends so get called it less often now.

I actually considered this for DDs name.

Nog, Noggins, Chooch, Choochlet, Baba-de-Chooch, Herb, Herby-Monkey, Potate, The Potate, Spudlica....I'll stop there.

All one child. None of the above relate to her actual name. She's 25 and still answers to most of the above. Also suspect she's on Mumsnet, so Hello Chooch if you see this!

My 21-year old son’s been Mr Gimlet pretty much since birth.

In primary school there was a girl called Egg. We all called her that I didn't even know what her real name was for a while.

Similarly in secondary there was a boy called Mole and even the teachers called him Mole 😂

One of mine is Mr Pickle which is not the name on their birth certificate, and they're not a boy.

My daughter is known as Plum. None of us can remember why and he she's 27 now

I love the fact you felt the need to clarify that you hadn't actually named a child Mr Pickle 😆. I also genuinely chuckled upon reading that she's MR pickle despite being a girl.

These are great! Just thought I'd add that Skeet also answers to Skeetie-Pie, Gibble, and Mr Gibbs. None of these have any bearing on his actual name.

Chuckles as my DS used to always laugh and smile as a baby.

My littlest is called Whiskers. That's because when I was pregnant with him we asked my eldest what should we call the new baby? Whiskers, he suggested.

Whenever I was pregnant we called bump 'bean'. On the day youngest dc was born the older siblings came to visit us in hospital. Dh and I hadn't yet settled on a name, so they all went home still not knowing their new sibling's name. When I came home that night, the children had been excitedly talking about Bean all day. And that was it, from then on youngest dc's name was Bean. Youngest dc does have a proper name, but it wasn't really used until they started school. Even now (Y13!) Bean is still the their affectionate nickname at home.
