Oh, I know a little boy called Dante...that is such a gorgeous name....had no idea it was italian....

ButterflyMcQueen · 18/04/2008 16:21

cristina - is that pronounced no - eee - mi

CristinaTheAstonishing · 18/04/2008 16:30

My niece is Romanian and they pronounce it No-e-mee with a plain middle E, like in Elocution and an O as in odd. She was given this name because she was born in November, for some reason it seemed to make sense to her parents. (I'm named after her dad who is my godmother's son.)

sophiebbb · 18/04/2008 17:11

no (as in yes, no)
e (as in the e of 'e'lephant)
me (as in you, me)

ButterflyMcQueen · 18/04/2008 20:52

how lovely

wish it was a boys name

vanloadtovenice · 18/04/2008 21:42

Inigo? Love it!

3andnomore · 18/04/2008 23:31

Inigo? Sounds like Ingo...which I completely dislike, lol....but then, I don't have any Kid to name anymore, lol....

onebatmother · 18/04/2008 23:38

inigo, aahh. I love it, would have had that for DS if DP hadn't been such a cowardly cur.

but of your orig list, I think Orlando is super lovely - being half italian deponcifies it.

is luca short for ludovico? both are lovely, but ludovico might be a little challenging for most Brits who don't have another romantic language.

Orlando is OK, but doesn't sound nice when pronounced with an English accent (particularly with the English 'r') IMVHO.

Cosimo and Ludovico both sound a bit posh but I don't dislike them. They have the advantage that Brits probably do now how to pronounce them. If you wanted to keep to the Medici theme (not sure there ever was a Medici theme, but that's what I thought of!) you could also go for Lorenzo. (Are you/your dh Florentine? If so, then the Dante suggestions might also be up your street!)

I've just realised that with Ludovico and Orlando you might have an Ariosto thing going on too. On that theme you could go for Astolfo, Brandimarte, Leone, Mandricardo, Rinaldo, Rodomonte, Ruggiero... (though some of them are perhaps a bit ).

Dario would not be my favourite, but can't say why.

I'd avoid Nicola/Andrea for the reasons Califrau points out. Niccolo' is better (not very well known as a name in the UK, but identifiably male). (My dh works at an airport, and he once had to check the carta d'identita' of a real, live Niccolo' Macchiavelli. He PHSL! What were his parents thinking of?

What about Corrado (Dino)?

Luca is nice, but doesn't sound like the kind of name you're after from the list you posted.

OK... have looked at my bookshelves for inspiration... Enzo? Umberto? Fulvio (I love this name)? Luigi (Gigi)? Giorgio? Cesare? Ignazio? Elio? Stefano? Ettore? Pier Paolo?

HTH! If not... I've had fun!

Ellbell · 19/04/2008 00:17

Paride?
