Isn't it spelt Isla?

ktmoomoo · 18/04/2008 08:44

mean they a lovely names xx

Mason sounds Masonic if you ask me. Might cause issues. But I do like those sort of names, Sawyer etc
You'll get lots of mispronunciations for Ayla unless you call her Isla. But it's pretty.

Isla is pronounced eye-la, which is how you say ayla should be pronounced, so now I'm confused, which doubtless means that everyone else who sees her name will be.

I think Isla is a very pretty name btw.

PortAndLemon · 18/04/2008 08:51

I would instinctively pronounce Ayla "AY-la" (to rhyme with Taylor). If you aren't bothered about having to correct people all the time it's a lovely name.

Could you use the initials of the family names to create another name?

CantSleepWontSleep · 18/04/2008 09:02

Aye and eye aren't necessarily the same pronunciation in England though makingdo, so I think most of us are still confused! Aye can be pronounced 'ay' or 'eye'.

Is Ayla to rhyme with Taylor as someone suggests?

I've never heard anyone pronounce Isla as iz-la or ees-la.

Well it matters if you're asking us to comment on a name, and we can't even work out what that name is because you won't answer our questions about how to pronounce it, yes.

Is it so hard to say whether it rhymes with Taylor or not?

But you also said that it wasn't pronounced the same as Isla, which it now seems it is, so you have contradicted yourself.

I think I'll leave this thread now, as I get the impression that you only want to hear from people who will swoon at your choice of name and spelling.
