We welcomed our little boy on Friday and have yet to decide on a name. Please help us decide on what to call him, he’s such a sweet little character and I’m starting to worry that he will forever be known as ‘baby’ as we can’t decide!!

Names we have on our list so far that we like are -

Charlie
Freddie
Albie
Archie

Would love to hear thoughts and also any suggestions.

Freddie

irisheyesaresmiling7 · 27/08/2024 14:41

I like Charlie but don't like Charles.

I have a Charlie (teenager) and he is Charlie on his birth certificate.

Freddie's not too bad but I'm not keen on Albie and Archie.

Meadowwild · 27/08/2024 14:42

I like all of those names but as PP have said - they are diminutives so I'd register birth under a full name.

Charles - Charlie
Frederick or Alfred - Freddie (or Alfie)
Albert - Albie or Bertie
Archibold or Archwell (not keen on these long forms but love nn Archie)

As you seem to like names ending in 'ie' sound:

James - Jamie or Jimmy
Henry - Harry (or Hal)
Jonathan - Johnny
George - Georgie
Mathew - Mattie
William - Billy
Joseph - Joey
Oscar - Ozzie
Rafael - Raffie
Zachariah/Zachary/Izaak - Zackie

Archibold or Archwell??! 🙄

timoteigirl · 27/08/2024 16:01

Charlie.

Tickettothemoon · 27/08/2024 17:35

Thank you so much for all your responses, I didn’t expect so much help!

I think we have narrowed it down to Freddie or Charlie.

We each have non ‘ie’ names that we like but the only ones we seem to agree on all seem to end with that but there is clearly a trend we hadn’t picked up on 😅

The awesome thing about those two names is that they are a great combination too! I love both those.

Charles Frederick
Frederick Charles

FayCarew · 27/08/2024 18:27

@Tickettothemoon , do you like Fred? Freddie might get shortened.

SummerFade · 27/08/2024 18:35

I like the ie names and as an old wumman with 2 degrees and an IE first name myself, it won’t hamper their chances in later life because they’re Male. Being born female is far more of an impediment to career success.
Nobody cares if the bank manager is called Jo-eee, Jonny, Jonathan or JimBob. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Personally, I wouldn't give a child a diminutive name. They won't be a child for long, and the name needs to serve him well his entire life, no matter what he chooses to do.

This.

Freddie, Charles and Albert are lovely.

Thunderstorms279 · 27/08/2024 19:19

Archie would be my pick

hattie43 · 27/08/2024 19:26

I like Jude

If you go for any of those names, please name them the longform version and use the nickname version as a nickname.

Thank you.

He won't be a baby forever.

DamnYerEyes · 28/08/2024 00:53

Albie is my favourite from yours.

Other suggestions
Max
Louis
Zac
Jesse
Eli

Those are the best two names on the whole discussion. Congratulations on your new little boy, he sounds just the cutest.

This. Don't give a diminutive. Also Albie and Archie are very popular, but that may not bother you.

SuziQuinto · 28/08/2024 09:20

Frederick and Charles are lovely, classical names and you obviously like the diminutives.
Congratulations!

My favourite from your list is

Charles - Charley or Charlie

Do you like Carl, Athol, Desmond or Derek?

PMAmostofthetime · 02/09/2024 08:47

Congratulations- my advise don't rush it you have 6 weeks and I know people asking about the name wears thin but don't rush it and regret it.

Love all of your names Freddie is my favourite. I disagree with the long name on the birth certificate. I know people who hate this as they have never been known by that name but have to use it everywhere officially. I know 2 people who have changed it legally to the shortened version that they have always been known as.
