We welcomed our little boy on Friday and have yet to decide on a name. Please help us decide on what to call him, he’s such a sweet little character and I’m starting to worry that he will forever be known as ‘baby’ as we can’t decide!!

Names we have on our list so far that we like are -

Charlie
Freddie
Albie
Archie

Would love to hear thoughts and also any suggestions.

Nor personally a fan of boys 'ie' names in general. But two exceptions that I do like are Jamie and Brodie.

Love PPs suggestions of Fraser, Matthew and Alexander.

Scissor · 26/08/2024 23:55

Roderick gives you Rory, Roddy, Derry or Ricky diminutives.
Plus loads more that aren't an "y" ending.
It's a great name!

LadyGAgain · 27/08/2024 00:00

Congratulations!
Your names are all lovely. They are very popular at the moment.
If we had a son he would be Fletcher, Quinn or Caspar. Probably a few less of them in the same classroom - not that this matters!!

Congratulations on your baby boy OP. All those names are lovely. I think maybe Albie is my favourite from your list but they're all really good.

Similar sounding names are maybe
Laurie
Sammie
Ritchie

Have lots of fun gazing at your wee man and working out who he is.

ellenpartridge · 27/08/2024 01:05

From your list I would pick Charlie

Suggestions that I think are a similar vibe, Finn, Flynn, Toby, Max, Arlo

BoleynMemories13 · 27/08/2024 05:08

Whilst still widely used today, I feel Charlie is the least 'now' of all your choices. You wouldn't be able to automatically guess the name of a Charlie, as it's very classic used across generations, whereas most Archies will be under 15 or 80+.

Freddie again is mainly used on under 15s, with Fred for 80+, but not that many inbetween as it really died away then came back.

Albie feels a very modern short form for Albert, with Bert being more traditional. I would expect an Albie to likely be under 10 if I heard it.

Therefore I'm more drawn to Charlie out of those 4, as I like classic names.

If you like the 'ee' sound at the end, have you considered something like Louis? It gives you the same ending, without being a diminutive of something else. Same with Finley and Jesse, although they feel more modern. There's Zachary too, and Henry. Harry, whilst technically a diminutive, seems more similar to Charlie in that it has been used across many generations. Tommy too. Ollie?

Charlie is a good choice though. I'd go for Charlie.

Charlie and Freddie - my teenagers have friends with these names, nice boys 😊
Albie and Archie - know of boys with these names but not personally.
I think they're all nice names. Go with the one that feels right!

Cameron
Benjamin
George
William
Nicholas
Sebastian
Elias
Fraser

FlipFlopVibe · 27/08/2024 14:32

Not sure where you live but I know 4 Albie's, they're all going to be in the same class too. It's very popular and personally think it's a toddler name, not a grown man.

We really struggled with boys names so much. Girl name we had 5 months before she arrived and we didn't even know it was a girl till then. Boy we couldn't decide for over a week after he arrived and even then our list was short and not filled with ones we loved

Scooby2024 · 27/08/2024 14:33

I like Freddie and Charlie.
