Thank you all so much! These are great so far! Favourites, Emily, Annabelle, Eve, Ivy, Anna, Esmee, Elizabeth and Eve.

I think two syllables sounds better as suggested.

I'd use Christina - the Christina I know is called Christy for short or you could use Tina. Agree Chris isn't nice for a girl! Or you could be really strict and only use Christina and teach her to say "it's Christina" if someone tries to shorten it.

You can’t control it though, if you don’t like a common short form of a name, just don’t use it, because inevitably, that’s what she’ll end up being called.

Lydia Ruby and

Marianne Christina
Zoe Christina
Adelaide Christina
Juliet Christina
Inez Christina
Beatrice Christina (Bea)
Lois Christina
Jocelyn Christina
Iris Christina
Honor Christina

It’s all very well teaching her to say “It’s Christina”. However, That only works if the child herself doesn’t want her name shortened.

Some lovely suggestions on here.

With Christina, i'd avoid a first name ending with 'a'. I also think a 2 syllable name sounds best

Firsttimebabymummy · 21/08/2024 08:48

I first thought Anna Christina

My daughter middle name Jean after my gran - can’t shorten that. Her first name is Iris, not many options for shortening that without being weird.

Edited

I have a Grace which I you can’t shorten so got lengthened to Gracie instead. You cannot win with names sometimes.

I also know a child who was named after a much loved family member and somehow ended up being called biscuit. You’d of thought it’d worn off as he aged but he’s nearly 18, 6 4”,still a biscuit.

I work with a Christina who is one as Chrissy. Woe betide anyone who calls her Chris!

DM and DSis both have Christina as a middle name. DM's first name is also 3 syllables, ending in "uh" sound. She wouldn't recommend it. DSis has a one syllable first name ending in "ee" sound. That works much better.

There is a version “ Stina.” I knew one and thought it was her actual name so it would never have occurred to me to call her Chris, but I later found she was Christina. But you’ve got to like Stina for that to be useful.

@IsItFinallyMe I know a few C(h)ristinas who don't have their names shortened, and 2 who are Tina.
Tina is pretty IMO.

I only know one female Chris and she's Christine on her BC, I think.

KirstenBlest · 21/08/2024 11:51

Any name should be ok as a first name but probably best to avoid a name like Athena or Xena, or a name beginning with a K sound (Cora, Clara, Chiara etc).
I'd also avoid another L or R name.

I like the name Christina, and the siblings' names are fine.

Christina could be shortened to Kitty.

Love Christina to honour your mum. Also love Lydia and Ruby so I can see why you’re struggling to match them!

I think PP suggestions of Iris, Emma, mZoe snd Phoebe are fab and work well with your other daughters. Also like Rose and Polly.

StormingNorman · 21/08/2024 14:09

The name that immediately sprang to mind was Anna Christina.

I first thought Anna Christina

That seems to have come to lots of us! I was wondering if there is an Anna Christina and decided we are all thinking ( loosely) of Anna Karenina.

IsItFinallyMe · 21/08/2024 21:21

Thank you all so much, leaning to Elizabeth Christina (lily as a potential nickname) Elizabeth was my grandmothers name so would be very fitting.
I am very keen on Anna and Esmay also, some wonderful suggestions from you all. Thank you again!

Elizabeth is lovely. It was on my list for dd :) Esmay isn't to my taste but I think Elizabeth and Anna are both great names.
