What does surname start with OP?

No idea if these comments have any accuracy to them, they're just the first things I think of:

Olga - elderly Russian lady. Don't like it.
Luna - Lovegood. But I like it.
Mina - lots of very similar names but nice.
Gaia - for some reason I think Central/South American but idk if that's right.
Juno - a film about a pregnant teenager? Not sure if it was Juno. I like it though.

Luna and Juno are my favourites.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 10/08/2024 23:37

Olga - I’d assume an Eastern European background. Harsh sound, so not my taste.
Luna - pretty sound but just so trendy. Also quite popular for pets where I am.
Mina - Mina Murray in Dracula. Beautiful, very elegant and underused but sadly might be confused with much better known Nina.
Gaia - Gorgeous, with a nature vibe yet elegant and very underused in the UK compared to elsewhere, but you possibly risk the ignorant here saying “Gayer” because of that.
Juno - fun and quirky sounding, and possibly the “safer” option as its well known thanks to the Goddess and the Film (so easy to say/spell) yet not over popular.

Gaia would be my own pick, but I think Mina is lovely too and Juno very useable.

If you want a slightly unusual name with 4 letters I'll mention a name I've only known one person to have - 35+ years ago I worked with a really nice, quirky and highly intelligent woman, she had a PhD in chemistry - she was called Irma - I can't remember if she was Czech or from Hungary, somewhere like that - not Russian or German though. I've not heard it since or seen it mentioned anywhere. It's a softer sound than Olga. FWIW I really don't like the other suggestions for all the reasons mentioned by everyone else.

SnowFrogJelly · 11/08/2024 01:14

Juno

Gooseysgirl · 11/08/2024 07:42

What do they make me think of?

Mina - the elephant from Sing
Olga - Russian gymnast
Juno - that movie a few years ago staring Elliot Page, I know a dog with the name
Luna - Harry Potter character, and I also know two dogs with the name

Do I like any of the names? Juno and Mina are ok

Gooseysgirl · 11/08/2024 07:43

Forgot Gaia... Emma Thompsons daughter, no I don't like it.

lemarr · 11/08/2024 11:34

Juno — I don’t like the rest at all.

WAIT what’s with the vulva reference?

I didn't make the original comment, but I have known some people refer to it as their "minny".

I think Irma was Mr Beans’s girlfriend, only time I’ve ever heard the name.

Needmorelego · 11/08/2024 20:30

@KoalaDrama @larkstar when I hear the name Irma I always think of Irma Kurtz who was the Agony Aunt for Cosmo magazine for years (decades?)
She wrote a great book about travelling across America by bus.

KirstenBlest · 11/08/2024 20:41

I remember her, @Needmorelego .

Needmorelego · 11/08/2024 20:50

@KirstenBlest I just had a quick Google. Irma Kurtz is apparently 88 years old and still writing for Cosmo.
Go Irma 🤩

KirstenBlest · 11/08/2024 20:58

I've not read Cosmo for decades but I loved it in the Marcelle D'Argy Smith days.

larkstar · 11/08/2024 22:46

@KoalaDrama Well - that - I did not know!
@Needmorelego ah yes - I know of her - forgot about her.
I quite like the name Irma.

KoalaDrama · 12/08/2024 07:28

I feel we’ve inspired a new generation of Irmas 😄

Jessieshome · 12/08/2024 12:36

Olga - a Mrs Trunchball type character.
Luna - a dog. I know of a few dogs called Luna, usually Spaniels.
Mina - Meena? or Miner? Bit odd.
Gaia - a beautiful Italian lady with long brown curly hair
Juno - My favourite of your choices, it has a lovely sound, I think it's the name of a Goddess? I really like it.

SpanielintheWorks · 12/08/2024 12:54

There are reasons for this. Spaniel = Luna✅

Haha! How true! I have a Spaniel cross and she is a bit mad.

sel2223 · 14/08/2024 10:15

Olga I definitely agree with Mrs trunchbowl, that's exactly how I picture her.

I know a Gaia and think it's a beautiful name

Mina sounds unfinished to me, like the ending of a longer name used as a nickname.

June and Luna are not my taste but are OK

PinkChaires · 14/08/2024 10:18

In my language mina means love so i vote that. Its a very international name i think so popular
