Thoughts on the name Rudy

Csang · 04/08/2024 21:54

We're due to have a baby boy soon and I've been reaching out for help with names. I've currently fallen for the name Rudy but only like the shortened version, not Ruldoph.
What's people's thoughts on just calling him Rudy as his first full name? I was thinking Oscar as a middle name so if when he is older or maybe wants something more formal/ conventional then he could use that if desired? Thanks :)

Awful name

Berlinlover · 04/08/2024 23:52

My cousins called farts rudys when we were little.

I dislike Rudy, though it is cute.

Other names have options of Rudy for a nick name..

Rupert Oscar
Rufus Oscar

Rhodes Oscar
Richard Oscar
Riley Oscar
Ralph Oscar
Bruce Oscar

Try to think of your future...

Firsttimebabymummy · 05/08/2024 07:42

It's not my style but I don't mind it

However, Rudy Oscar together doesn't sound right to me...

PuddingAunt · 05/08/2024 10:49

I like it, but i would expect Hungarian/German heritage.

I love the Hruodwolf (famous wolf) meaning of Rudolf.

Randomly I met a Scottish Ruadhri who went by Rudy.

Rudy Ayoub on YT, - “when Arab Dads get a ransom call” -
should your son grow up to be as handsome, soft spoken and funny,
then you will have chosen his name well.

KirstenBlest · 05/08/2024 12:55

It's fine @Csang . Much nicer than the other posters' suggestions

marshmallowfinder · 05/08/2024 12:58

Don't 'reach out' OP, just ask! 🫣 I'm not keen on Rudy. It's rude-y.

LutonBeds · 05/08/2024 13:03

Pizza chain up here. That and Giuliani is what I think of.

3within3 · 05/08/2024 13:56

LOVE it. Do it

RuthW · 06/08/2024 18:55

Awful. Sorry

'Message to you Rudy'

I also think nudy Rudy

MerryMarys · 07/08/2024 13:23

A Rude-y is a fart

spiderdave · 07/08/2024 13:26

I also like it, it reminds me of Rudy Cooper from Dexter (take that as you will, I like him!), and Buck's nemesis on Ice Age!

twentysevendresses · 07/08/2024 14:18

Not a name I'd pick OP, sorry. I couldn't get past the 'rude' connotations - I think it would make your child a bit of a target for teasing in school 🤷‍♀️

Jude is lovely, and has a similar vibe?

LakelandDreams · 07/08/2024 14:20

It's awful. Sounds like something is a bit rude. Please don't inflict that upon a defenceless baby.

KirstenBlest · 07/08/2024 14:56

I know a Rudy, and never thought 'rude', but a friend and I would say it made us think of 'A message to you Rudy'

itsgettingweird · 07/08/2024 15:00

I actually know brothers called Rudy and Oscar!

Great names

greglet · 07/08/2024 15:57

I really like it! I’ve taught a Rudy and and Rudi (Dutch heritage) who were both lovely boys.

I love it because of the song, but I'm not sure I'd use it. In ska music it refers to the rude boys, the rough kids getting into trouble.

This was my first thought as well so it wouldn't be my first choice of name.
RIP Terry Hall ❤️

I know 2. Both lovely very sporty boys.

MerryMarys · 07/08/2024 20:57

I wouldn't saddle a defenceless child with the name that sounds like a rudey, someone rude!

I do know a German Rudolf but in German Rudi does not sound rude!

RichPetunia · 07/08/2024 21:27

No

Daisybuttercup12345 · 14/08/2024 22:48

Just see Rude.
