I suggested Imogen for a girl the other day and DP said with a smile "we could call her Midge for short" - and I genuinely love it!

Not sure if just mad baby brain though...?!

Think most I know are called Immy. There was one who preferred Jenny. Unfortunately you can’t really choose it, children will make up whatever they like and often it’s not even relevant to the name!!

hello33sunshine · 26/07/2024 18:38

I think if that's what you want her nickname to be then that's up to you!

I think midge is normally short for Margery? At least I know someone called that who goes by midge.

I would probably end up calling an Imogen "imie". But tbh I've ended up shortening both of my sons names in weird ways over the years 😅

SummaLuvin · 26/07/2024 18:38

I know a Imogen who goes by Momo

Needmorelego · 26/07/2024 18:40

If you like the book/film Fried Green Tomatoes then Idgie is the one to go for.

HousedInMySoul · 26/07/2024 18:41

I like midge as a nickname. And imogen is a great name 😍

SuperGinger · 26/07/2024 18:42

Mimi is another nickname, so is Gigi.

WouldUSayImWorthy · 26/07/2024 18:42

I'd think Immy was most obvious.

Midge is genuinely fucking awful.

EricHebbornInItaly · 26/07/2024 18:42

Two friends called Imogen, both known as Immo.

Summertimer · 26/07/2024 18:43

Gem is one I’ve encountered, but that’s quite unusual

SpelledOlivia · 26/07/2024 18:43

Yes! My sister is Imogen and we called her Midge. From teen onwards she has been Immy, but as far as I’m aware she liked Midge, just outgrew it. I love it 🥰

MartyFunkhouser · 26/07/2024 18:45

I know one who goes my Immy. Midge is awful!

Gcsunnyside23 · 26/07/2024 18:45

I know an Imogen that's a midge and really like it. She does too

JimNast · 26/07/2024 18:45

Midge and Immy are fine. Mimi and Gigi are awful

Littledancer13 · 26/07/2024 18:45

My daughter is called Imogen and goes by Immy, but I’ve always called her lulu! 😂😂 no idea why! She loves her name and being called Immy, and there aren’t any others with the same name in her school but it’s equally not an unusual name either!

BeautyPageantDropout · 26/07/2024 18:46

Isn't Mrs Maizel called Midge? I can see it having a resurge because of that.

Lovelynames123 · 26/07/2024 18:46

I like midge! My girls have loads of silly and sentimental nicknames, as I did as a child, some have stuck some haven't...she can be Midge to you, might be Immy to friends, might end up with a nickname that's more descriptive than linked to her name!

MartyFunkhouser · 26/07/2024 18:48

I have just remembered my grandma was known to her siblings as Mog, which is quite sweet.

BeautyPageantDropout · 26/07/2024 18:49

I think Barbie's sister was also called Midge. It definitely has that american 50s/60s vibe.

Alarae · 26/07/2024 18:50

The only Imogen I know is referred to as Mo by her parents.

Friends will find their own nicknames but you can use Midge even if they don't!

SuchGreatFun · 26/07/2024 18:52

Idgie definitely.

HowIrresponsible · 26/07/2024 18:59

Midge as in the horrid biting flies? Sounds like minge too.

why would you reduce such a beautiful name to that?

Imo, Immy or radical thought you can just call her by her name Imogen.

BoleynMemories13 · 26/07/2024 19:44

Each to their own, but Midge is dreadful. I'm not fond of Immy either.

I've heard of Ginny as a nickname for Imogen, which is think is by far the nicest option.

HareandTortoise · 26/07/2024 20:06

We have an Imogen, she mostly goes by her full name, or lmo, or Gin (her 1 year old brother could only say her name as Gin-gin when she was born and it just stuck!). I think they call her Immy at nursery sometimes but it's not something we use.

I also know of an Imogen who goes by Mimi, which is cute 😍

GoFigure235 · 26/07/2024 20:32

Ginny.

Isn't a midge a mosquito?

RaraRachael · 26/07/2024 20:37

Just call her Imogen.
