Lucy? Too cute for adults?

Thoughts on Lucy, I love it for a little girl but maybe too cute for an adult, will she dislike it when she's older?

Nope not too cute. How about Lucie

midsummerday · 17/07/2024 12:04

I have a Lucy and I love it. I have met far more adult Lucys than little girls though which is one reason I like it. Lucy could be 70, 30 or 3.

Lifeinlists · 17/07/2024 12:05

It's a classic, normal and nice name. Nothing cute about it. Why do you think so?
I have known several adult Lucys - never given it a second thought.

SanMarzano · 17/07/2024 12:07

Lucy is a very standard name. It doesn’t seem to have held back Lucy Allan, Lucy Frazer, Lucy Worsley etc.

WimpoleHat · 17/07/2024 12:08

Pretty classic name - nothing to worry about!

BoleynMemories13 · 17/07/2024 12:08

It's a perfectly normal, classic name which suits people of all ages.

YesItsMeIDontCare · 17/07/2024 12:09

I know 3 adult Lucys - 2 are heads of departments, one is an area manager. All 3 suit their name/their name suits them and all three do NOT do cute.

Go for it 😊

hazandduck · 17/07/2024 12:09

I know so many adult Lucys! I went to school with lots of them. It’s a totally normal, acceptable if-anything-too-popular name.

BoleynMemories13 · 17/07/2024 12:11

No different to adults called Amy, Katie, Sophie, Becky, Sally, Debbie, Wendy etc 🤷‍♀️

Well, it is quite different, as I’d say those are very dated. You don’t hear many baby Debbies or Wendys!

mitogoshi · 17/07/2024 12:24

I know several, some are actually Lucia, Louisa or similar

DramaAlpaca · 17/07/2024 12:36

It's a perfectly fine name for an adult.

The spelling Lucie is a bit twee, but Lucy is lovely.

MaltipooMama · 17/07/2024 12:57

I think it's a lovely name, would you maybe do Lucinda if you're thinking Lucy alone is too cute (I don't think it is btw!) and have the option to shorten it?

Firsttimebabymummy · 17/07/2024 12:58

It's a classic!

I had Lucinda on my list, nn Lucy if you did want options :)

Dettolallin · 17/07/2024 13:01

Beautiful and classic, not cute at all IMO. I am in the minority that prefers the Lucie spelling.

PantsAcademy · 17/07/2024 13:06

Nah, it's one of the relatively few names which seems totally standard for all ages from newborn to elderly.

You can't predict whether she will like it or not as she ages though, same with any other name. I have a "standard" name and at times I have wished my parents had called me something more interesting. Equally I'm sure there are people with "interesting" names who would have preferred a simpler name!

yikesanotherbooboo · 17/07/2024 13:10

When I was young some of the Lucys were Lucinda if that helps .
Personally I don't see it has infantile or childish ; it is quite feminine in the same way as Phoebe, Emily or Sophie are and is an absolutely classic name.

Winkler · 17/07/2024 13:12

Not too cute but along with Emma is a drippy name

KirstenBlest · 17/07/2024 13:22

Lucinda seems a long name for the sake of it- it's not an attractive name. Just Lucy is fine.

Lucy and Emma drippy? Hmm

TheChosenTwo · 17/07/2024 13:25

I think it’s name that suits adults and children perfectly. I don’t think it’s drippy! But agree that there ARE names that make me lean towards drippy 😂
this isn’t one of those though.

HamiltonHarty · 17/07/2024 13:28

I think it's a name that's really stood the test of time. I've know people born in the 50s and 70s with the name as well as people born in the last 20 years. Nice name. I like Lucy Worsley

loropianalover · 17/07/2024 13:29

Director of Services at my job is a Lucy! Suits her well.

It’s a matter of opinion isn’t it? And in my opinion they are drippy names. Insipid might be a better descriptor actually.

Riapia · 17/07/2024 13:31

I had a neighbour named Lucy, she died when she was 83.
Cute as a rattlesnake.

BobbyBiscuits · 17/07/2024 13:31

I think it's quite girly. So if she was a tomboyish type as an adult I guess it kind of doesn't suit? My mate who's like that goes by Lu.
But it's a nice, traditional name. You see loads of adults called it. It was very popular on the 70s and 80s I think.
