Lucy? Too cute for adults?

Thoughts on Lucy, I love it for a little girl but maybe too cute for an adult, will she dislike it when she's older?

Lucinda, Lucille, Lucienne, Luselle on the birth certificate if you want to give her options - all adults I know.

Why the obsession with options? Lucy is lovely, the other names aren't.

I think some people feel for some reason that any name ending in an ‘ie’ sound must be a nickname, because of common nicknames like Katie, Lizzie etc. This isn’t the case. Lucy, Sophie, Julie, Emily etc are all full names in their own right - they are the French variants of Latin or Greek-origin names ending in ‘a’.

i've met several adult lucys, and the name for me makes me think of lucy dacus

It’s a lovely name. Classic and beautiful. Most of the Lucys I know are adults, I know one in her teens.

Lovely classic name

My (now teenage) Lucy is named after my mum's godmother Lucy. Fits all generations 🥰

For me, I think it’s the two syllable thing PLUS the “ee” ending sound that makes it sound more cute and nickname-like. Except for Mary, which has such an elderly and queenly feel that it doesn’t swing “cute” , even 2 syllable names that I really love the sound of like Lily, Sylvie, even Xanthe etc are borderline for me. Whereas the extra syllable in Emily, Rosalie, Verity, Cecily etc make them less nickname sounding somehow?

I agree Lucy, Amy, Sophie etc aren’t nicknames (and I know lots of middle aged women with them) but I guess because 2 syllable “ie/y” ending nicknames seem to be used for every other child now, they perhaps feel like they could be. Still, at least it means little Lucy will fit right in with all the names of her peers!

Not too cute.

Gorgeous name "bringer of light".
It works very well in lots of cultures, particularly Scandinavia where they have their own festival on St Lucy's day.
Burning headresses anyone?

I like Lucy but also love Lucinda, Luciana, Lucina (the Roman Goddess of light & birth), Lucia & Lucille for something a bit different.
