Daisy - too juvenile?

Helenthemelonfelon · 16/07/2024 16:39

Expecting a baby girl and really struggling to pick a name, so far all we have agreed on is Daisy but we are worried that it's too juvenile for an adult. So what do you think is Daisy too juvenile?

Full name would be Daisy Alexandra Forbes

Thoughts?

Daisy is a gorgeous name! And she’ll be growing up alongside a whole swathe of Poppy’s, Maisies, Millie’s, Mollys, Elsie’s, Evie’s etc.. so these names will seem totally grown up and normal for this generation 😊

Daisy62 · 16/07/2024 17:01

Daisy Alexandra is lovely - why not just go with it? You can't tell what she'll think it about when she's grown up - people change/modify their names all the time, she'll do what she wants with it.

A colleague has a daughter Daisy, now 13(?)

We have joked about her joining the SAS and some shocked neer do well realising that the person about to something very very nasty to him is a petite woman called Daisy

loropianalover · 16/07/2024 17:10

I think Daisy is lovely and feminine.

Naomi and Elena are beautiful too.

LlynTegid · 16/07/2024 17:11

It's a bit last decade I feel.

Firsttimebabymummy · 16/07/2024 17:30

Daisy isn't my personal style (same as Poppy etc)

But I do like Daisy Alexandra and she can choose do go by Alexandra when she's older if she doesn't like Daisy anymore

I say that as my friend goes by Liz and I knew her for years as Liz/Lizzie before finding out her first name is actually Millie Elizabeth!

Babymamma192 · 16/07/2024 17:32

I have a Daisy (and an Iris.... I love flower names) so I'm biased but it's a beautiful name and really suits her. I also worked with a daisy and she loved her name.

KateDelRick · 16/07/2024 17:34

Daisy is too twee. Plus it's incredibly popular and is going to date. I teach about ten Daisys.
Eleanor?
Emmeline?

PiggieWig · 16/07/2024 17:36

I love it. It was my name for DS1 if he’d have been a girl.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 16/07/2024 17:39

I like it. Daisy Alexandra can become Dax...

KateDelRick · 16/07/2024 17:41

So many girls with ditsy names: Maisie, Daisy, Minnie, Dottie, Lottie, Betsey etc.

Joolsin · 16/07/2024 17:43

I love it. My Daisy is in her late 20s, tattooed and pierced, and her name still suits her

ThreeEggOmlette · 16/07/2024 17:50

I'm not a fan of twee names, but agree twee is now par for the course so nobody will care.

Chucking these in the mix because I like them:
Iris
April
Willow
Wren

Sunshinedayscomeon · 16/07/2024 17:50

I have Daisy and twee is not a word I'd used.. she's powerful, strong and proud of her name.

LocalHobo · 16/07/2024 17:51

I deal with a Daisy for work, she is well respected in the financial sphere, and I can't bring myself to call her by her name to her face. The name does not suit her professional persona. Obviously that is a 'me' problem, and I'm fine addressing her in emails.
I don't feel this way with Lilly, Rose, Iris etc.

KateDelRick · 16/07/2024 18:05

Alexandra is a lovely name, very strong and classy. Maybe Daisy as the middle name?

Twoshoesnewshoes · 16/07/2024 18:12

Ooh yes Eleanor
or Leonie?
I think Daisy is a bit young, also I know four dogs and two cats called Daisy…
Delphine?

chicke09 · 16/07/2024 18:13

Daisy is such a pretty name, I love it

LittleLittleRex · 16/07/2024 18:14

So many girls now have very twee, little girl names, much more so than Daisy, that would have been out of place for our generation but will be totally normal for theirs.

KateDelRick · 16/07/2024 18:16

Delphine is a beautiful name, very elegant.

moonshinepoursthroughmywindow · 16/07/2024 18:17

I've known a couple of adult Daisies - they always seem to be quite cool/boho/creative but I don't think it would be the end of the world if one didn't. What might or might not be a bigger deal for you is that quite a lot of dogs seem to be called Daisy. I don't think it would be a deal breaker for me, but I'll always remember my brother (whose name was not popular when he was young but is more popular now) used to find it very irritating when people heard his name and said, "Oh, we used to have a dog called that."

Sunshinedayscomeon · 16/07/2024 17:50

It's a comment on how Daisy sounds to my ear, it's not a comment about the owner if the name who (99% of the time) had no choice in the matter!

I'm happy your daughter rocks it.

KirstenBlest · 16/07/2024 18:56

All the names are fine @Helenthemelonfelon .
Names like Alfie, Archie, Teddy, Ellie,Evie, Poppy etc will not seem juvenile when they are adults.

SuperGinger · 16/07/2024 19:02

Very Great Gatsby - I love it

Georgethecat1 · 16/07/2024 19:07

I can’t stand flower names for girls. They sound very girly / unprofessional imo. I know people will disagree but whether we consciously or unconsciously do it, names are judged on CVs. I prefer strong traditional names for this reason.
