Not my bag, I'm afraid. With a cool surname like Storm I'd definitely go for classic first name - make him sound more like a classic Marvel superhero than a rubbish Bond villain.

hifi · 12/04/2008 11:47

his name would do well int he porn industry.

minipinkscottish · 12/04/2008 11:51

I like it and if you like it go for it.....but what if you have a girl next time?
I am also debating name for baby number 6 due in July....we think we have settled on calling HER Kennedy.......my other dcs are;- ds Stefan, ds Jaydan, ds Ciaran, dd Taylor and ds Mackenzie....what do you think?

shaqpe · 13/04/2008 00:14

pointydog, you are a very very rude individual.
i understand and respect that we don't agree on names, but is there any need to be rude to me?
Shag? Why on earth are you calling me that?
Downright rude.

I love it but think of Madonna and Guy Richie which is just doubling up the pukeness for me. Sorry. Still, a fab name if you have an Italian connection.

Ledodgy · 13/04/2008 00:19

I think pointydog thought the q in your name was a g which is an easy mistake to make. I don't think she was being offensive.

In answer to your original post I think you are best sticking to traditional names with a surname like Storm otherwise you could make your dc sound like a gladiator.

Tinker · 13/04/2008 00:19

Storm is a brilliant surname though.

fairyfly · 13/04/2008 00:20

Theres a rocko at my boys school and even if she isn't i am trying to work out f she is trying to be Maddonna. Call him Apple, less confusing.

Spidermama · 13/04/2008 00:23

I like it but I agree it is Italian and if you're not ...

So why not the English version,Rocky?

fairyfly · 13/04/2008 00:24

God i would love to call my child rocky, if i could only find a man willing to get me pregnant for baby rocky, ...

Moomin · 13/04/2008 11:17

Rocky?
Are you mad???

noddyholder · 13/04/2008 11:19

what is wrong with rocky?

Moomin · 13/04/2008 11:21

as a proper first name and not a nickname? For all the reasons listed above. Connotations and all that.

noddyholder · 13/04/2008 11:30

I know 2 and while their families are artistic and lovely they are not in any way outlandish and the children are not ridiculed or bullied.Better to go with a name you love than pander to other peoples preconceptions as I don't think that sort of bullying over names really goes on.I know a family with a rocky and a texan!

Spidermama · 13/04/2008 11:43

Well said Noddy.

Moomin · 13/04/2008 11:45

Good, glad the children and families are happy.

serin · 13/04/2008 22:00

Names like Rocco and Cruz are very traditional if you are Catholic and/or Italian/Spanish.

There is a St Rocco and a St Cruz.

I think both names are gorgeous.

beforesunrise · 15/04/2008 18:47

to op- are you italian or with italian roots? in which case please ignore me.

i am italian, and i should just warn you that NO ONE would call their baby that in italy as it sounds really old fashioned and peasanty. and it's also the name of a very famous pornstar (Rocco Siffredi), and a bit of a joke really.

i haven't said you shouldn't though- if you like it go for it (and i myself have chosen very old fashioned names for my dds). just bear in mind that if you holiday in italy people may not like it much... then again, who cares right?

MadameCh0let · 15/04/2008 18:56

I like it. But then I wanted to call my son Bruno. (I know that's not Italian).

Could Rocco be a nick name for Richard Oscar?? Just a thought... It might suit an English boy for his whole life, and Rocco could be a nick name for a bit.

MadameCh0let · 15/04/2008 18:59

Mini pink? You seriously going to call a girl Kennedy? Isn't that an anglicisation of the gaelic for ugly head. I know Cameron means crooked nose, but I think it's an unattractive masculine sound, it's also the name of a barbie, which is not a good thing.

Kennedy and Madison are the rollerdisco barbies. OH please don't call a girl Kennedy!!

pointydog · 15/04/2008 19:15

lol - I didn't catch up on this thread.

Yes, I thought your name was shagpe so I shortened it to shag. Honest mistake. I'm not that rude, cross my heart.

Doobydoo · 15/04/2008 19:17

Call your ds what you like it is no one else's business.Everyone has an opinion...unfortunately.What you like is what is important
